Frida Precariat

Received a pretty dope submission by talented musician by the name of Frida Precariat. Reppin’ Northhampton, Massachusetts, Frida says she is “a female performance-artist and dancer making noisy bedroom pop-jams with a hip-hop soul.” That’s a pretty accurate description of herself. It's not everyday you meet n pop/hip-hop/industrial/shoegaze artist that cites Trisha Brown and Lana Del Rey among their top influences. (Oh, and who also plays the violin...?) If you doubt this odd-combo can coexist in one artist, read, listen, and watch on. If this elcectic blend of seemingly non-related sounds and styles strikes your experimental chord within, today's your lucky day.

Meet Frida Precariat.

Born in NYC then moving to Western Massachusetts to attend Hampshire College (alma mater of Elliot Smith and Oneohtrix Point Never) there's little question the artist was exposed to a wide array of sounds.

Her personal sound, which she describes as "all about imperfection", has been years in the making. In college, she entrenched herself in the Northhampton punk and noise scene, meeting and collaborating with fellow artists. Most notably, she befriended shoegaze artist Expensive Looks, and together, they formed the duo Public Safety, releasing an EP entitled "United Hate" under Further Records.

Most recently, she released the music video for "o yea her" which you can see below. The fun, sometimes trippy, sometimes sexy, sometimes Nickeloden-gooey video was directed by Jackie McDermott of the punk band Sendiment Club. She's currently hard at work on a series of projects, including a single with Myke Murda (Childish Gambino producer) and another with BadAssBX (ILoveMakonnen producer.)

Mark February 3rd on your calenders now, for her next album and biggest project to date, DIRTY POP, will be released.
