"Premiere: Friendly Males "Ambulance Driver" Video"

L.A. psych-pop duo Friendly Males insist on calling the video for their track "Ambulance Driver" a "psychological thrill ride cut from the same cloth as early Michael Bay." However, with its John Stockton obsession, synchronized dancing goths, and parade of (apparent) non-actors, the desert-set clip more closely resembles some kind of peyote experiment gone horribly awry. Head below to check out our premiere and the band's upcoming tour dates.

"Friendly Males "Bite an Apple""

Los Angeles-via-New York duo Friendly Males are gearing up to release their debut album Nopalera later this year. Before it arrives in full, they've offered up a stream of its debut single "Bite an Apple."

The four-minute psych-pop song is full of spaced-out sounds, though a press release promises that the album's recording was all analog. Speaking on the track, the band called it "one of the more abstract songs on Nopalera, both lyrically and musically. Cut from a late '60s psychedelic cloth, with a thick haze of guitars, delay and mellotron, the singer depicts a simple world of loss, birth and growth from an innocent childlike perspective."

"Tune: Friendly Males - "Done it Again""

Friendly Males add to the endless list of Los Angeles bands doing things right. Exchanging the normal, polished sheen of the city’s musical output for warm and fuzzy, lo-fi pop, Friendly Males bottle the perfect dose of sunlight in their latest single, “Done It Again.” The song balances a swelling chorus with listless verses in mid-tempo garage pop wrapped in a familiar surf sway. Its layers melt together into a daydream of distorted guitars, ‘ooh la la’s, and churning repetition. A clever little pop tune bursting with appeal of band with more loveliness to come, “Done It Again” will circulate in your brain until the daylight fades. - Swell Tone

""Done it Again" by Friendly Males"

When they’re not playing jangly, psych-pop rock, the band of dudes known as Friendly Males like to “write poetry, eat Chinese food, have cigs, and call grandmas on speaker phone” among other things. Their debut LP, Nopalera (named after the original moniker for Hollywood) was recorded and produced by Tomas Dolas (of Mr. Elevator and The Brain Hotel) at Lolipop Studios and is being released via Lolipop Records next month. Here’s its first single “Done It Again”: - Free Bike Valet

Echo Park, CA -- Echoe Park’s’ own prolific DIY tape-tracking garage Label Lolipop Records has announced their Caravan Tour to SxSw. The bands going are Long Beach’s most riveting prog-psych band Rudy De Anda, a band that always get’s the crowd moving through a thick sea of beach-dream sunshine. Following Rudy is another psych-pop band Friendly Males, with a slightly nostalgic swagger tilt, somewhat akin to 90s indie classic Pavement on a swirly lo-fi bender. But such a psych-tastic lineup wouldn’t be complete without love-sick puppy-garage rockers Janelane, who's unabashedly simple arrangements pair sickeningly well with their cheeky lady vocal stylings.

LA Record - Interview // "De Anda’s sound is deliberately difficult to classify—like the title of the EP, it’s familiar but novel at the same time, blending Beatles-style song structures with romantic Latin crooners, subtle hints of modern pop, dreamy washed-out production and lyrics in both English and Spanish."

Exclaim.CA - Article // “Los Angeles-via-New York duo Friendly Males are gearing up to release their debut album Nopalera later this year. Before it arrives in full, they've offered up a stream of its debut single "Bite an Apple”...Cut from a late '60s psychedelic cloth, with a thick haze of guitars, delay and mellotron, the singer depicts a simple world of loss, birth and growth from an innocent childlike perspective."

AudioFemme - Article // “I had the pleasure of being introduced to garage rock/power pop band Janelane. Making waves on the local scene in Los Angeles, it’s only a short matter of time before their nostalgic rock sensibilities eventually take over America, and then…the world. “I’m just killing time now, baby.” Swooning vocals envelope you like a love spell before gritty rock riffs snap you out of your haze (and male gaze) to scare you into remembering that women absolutely run the world. This delightful two-track EP will have you feeling like a rebellious teenager with the whole world ahead of you.”
