From Afar

Lead guitarist and songwriter Adrian Grabicki did something nobody has done before, or since:

He flew 16,000 kilometres to start a band.

“New York was getting the better of me,” Adrian explains, “and for a bunch of reasons, moving to Sydney and starting a rock band was a very sane option.”

Looking up his old uni friend and lead singer Hayden Sterling, the songwriting team quickly recruited drummer Rami Subhiyah and fresh from London bands, bass player and Sydney native Tony Sinclair.

Boasting extensive music experience from around the globe, the guys quickly carved a niche in the commercial rock space, developing a signature sound that's one-part animal, two-parts melody.

Debut EP World’s Going To End mixed by Wade Keighran (Daniel Johns & Ben Gillies, The Presets, Wolf & Cub), is influenced by the big choruses of FM radio, with a nod to the timing patterns of prog rock.

Hayden's big vocal lines lead the charge on the soaring “World's Going to End” and, backed by call-and-response harmonies on the thundering groove of “New York”, listeners quickly develop a taste of the quartet's original, stick-in-your-head view of songwriting.

With well-received, high-energy performances at the Annandale, Manly and Wollongong, From Afar have quickly built a reputation for leaving everything on stage.

“I brought three friends to their third show,” said band/press manager Anna Rek, “word spread andtwo weeks later, those 3 people became 40.”

“And we haven't looked back,” adds Hayden.

“We work hard to put on a good show,” agrees Adrian. “We bring our personalities to the stage, which gives the crowd something extra to take home from the show.”

Having proved themselves in front of a crowd, From Afar are firmly looking to the future.

With debut EP World's Going to End out October 7, backed by solid touring and support slots booked, From Afar are serious about matching their ambitions with a road-ready work ethic.

"Taking the band on the road across Australia, and eventually the U.S." are high on Adrian's to-do list. "I can already see my buddies back home singing the chorus for 'New York' at a dive bar on the Lower East Side."

Moving at their current pace, the Big Apple won't be waiting long for Adrian's rock n' roll homecoming.
