"Local band spotlight: FROM MAN, IN GHOST"

From Man, In Ghost exploded onto the St. Catharines music scene only six months ago, releasing their first EP, Berlin Stories, in May of this year.

Tired of the generic and unmotivated local scene, From Man, In Ghost was formed from the ashes of previous bands. The foursome is determined to stand out in the sea of the diluted post-hardcore genre.
"A lot of our other projects, as bad as it sounds, were not very creative," said bassist and vocalist Pat Murphy. "We were just following what we were into at the moment. So we decided to write what we wanted to write, whether or not it was what was really popular to the scene. We wanted to make some music we could stand behind confidently for a period of time."
Within only a matter of months, From Man, In Ghost has made a name for themselves. Consistently touring throughout Ontario and the Maritime provinces, they have made stops with well-known acts such as From Autumn To Ashes, Hopesfall and Bayside. On top of all this, they have experience playing large festivals, having made a stop in Barrie for this year's Warped Tour, as well as St. Catharines' own SCENE Festival.

"We wanted to come out like a bang, so we recorded [Berlin Stories] right away, before we even played a show," said Murphy. "Then we had some mini-tours out of town, and some CD releases in St. Catharines that went really well. We've played with a lot of really good bands. We're really fortunate to be playing with bands of this level."

After some recent member changes, From Man, In Ghost has been focused on experimenting with a greater range of sound. Having four members with shockingly vast musical tastes generates an interesting mix of ideas from all corners of rock and punk.
"When we write a song, everyone has to be happy with it. If someone has an idea, we'll listen to it - whether or not we end up using it is different," said Murphy. "We have a collected amount of bands that we all like, but everyone of us can name a band that someone else hates that we love. It's cool that way because we all have a hand in the songwriting. Like, our drummer listens to Mogwai so he might throw in a weird-ass drum beat that sounds like Mogwai. I'm really into a lot of poppier music so I write the vocals and there will be hooky vocals. Our guitarist might be into something heavy so he might write something heavy."

With a strong dedication to their venture and an ever-growing fan base, From Man, In Ghost is certain to keep the local scene entertaining and interesting.

"We're not the best band ever, but we give it our all on stage and we strive to be better each time we play," said Murphy. "Plus, we're local music that's actually trying to do something full-time."

FROM MAN, IN GHOST is comprised of five regular guys making they music they love to play. FMIG hails from the Niagara region but draws influences from everywhere else. The bands first release "Berlin Stories EP" hit the shelves in May of 2006 and has been moving fast since. The band has already toured the East Coast and Ontario with their sights set on the West Coast, USA, and beyond...

Formed in October 2006, the band had many goals they were determined to meet before embarking upon the Niagara music scene home to such bands as Alexisonfire, Attack In Black, and many more emerging artists.

With a few months away from their first show 1 year anniversary, the band is already nearing 100 shows played, 700+ albums sold, and over $8000 tracked in merch; all accomplished without any label support.

They’ve already managed to play Vans Warped Tour and MTV’s Scene Music Festival, not to mention sharing the stage with Bayside, From Autumn To Ashes, It Dies Today, Bless The Fall, Hopesfall, and many more. Look out for From Man In Ghost at a venue near you!
