Bio

KB Omoba’s biography.

Singer and instrumentalist Kabiru Ogunlana-Tijani aka KB Omoba from Olodi-Apapa Lagos, Nigeria in West Africa, is one of the hottest musical acts on the current Canadian music scene and beyond. Now based in Winnipeg, Canada, KB as fondly called by friends and fans, has earned a matchless reputation for the excellence of his musicianship and the excitement of his live shows – whether performing solo or with his band.

He’s a uniquely multi-talented artist whose beautiful voice, combined with his fluid melodic lines and compelling grooves, has placed him in the front row ahead other African acts in the city. In addition to that, he’s a skilled and experienced performer on the stage. http://www.youtube.com/user/kotproduction

He’s not only a singer, but also writes his own songs, plays percussion and entertains the crowd at the same time

In 2001, Tijani relocated in Canada where he furthered his education and as well as continues his career in music and entertainment. But, if anything, the blend of musical elements to be found in Tijani’s neo-music actually originated from his family tree – where he inherited this God-giving gift.

At an early age, he has gained influences from some of Nigeria’s greatest musicians including King Sunny Ade, Late Dr Orlando Owoh, King Wasiu Ayinde, late Rolland Olubukola & Lanre Teriba, Segun Adex, e.t.c. As for him, everything started off mostly at the church back home where he was a member of the choir team and later started playing with the local bands in the neighbourhood.

By successfully uniting the traditional and contemporary music of Fuji and Juju of his native Yoruba culture, Tijani has created a neo-music called FUJU. He has described his music as: “informative and traditional music filled with high energy rhythm with various melodies.”

This infusing of Nigerian Yoruba music with an array of innovating elements has never been seen or heard of until Tijani created it and made it known to the world.

In Yoruba tradition, Fuji and Juju music was a great part of what he grew up with, so been able to combined both genres of music and drumming the “djembe” (a West African drum played by beating with the hand) has accordingly exposed him to a variety of cultures and making him the artist he is today.

Tijani performs as a solo artist or sometimes with a band depending on the occasion or event. When you listen to FuJu Melody or see KB performs live, it’s time to celebrate live no matter your condition.

He’s currently working on his debut album titled “Thy Will be done!” Tijani has taken his art to new heights, with the intricacy and precision of his drum-playing and his soulful singing. He will collaborate with different recording artists in the country in the forth-coming album. This will make his neo-music – FUJU not just a traditional music but also a recognized genre in the music scene.

Tijani has been performing at various events and places not only in Winnipeg but across Canada.
