This band is one of the hardest-working bands in the city,
and a certain measure of that dedication shows through on its
uneven but promising debut CD. Fuller illuminates a band that pulls
pages from nearly every genre in the book - a kind of grunge-metal hybrid
as if Tool started a garage jam band with members of Finger 11, and
U2's Edge dropped in every now and then to add some guitar licks.
There are some production issues: the guitars are so overpowered by lead vocals that
they sound flimsy and underdefined, and the vocal is overly raw.
And while vocal melodies on tunes like "The Evidence" can be refreshingly, darkly original,
the guitar chords for the same song sound far too much like Nirvana
on Valium.
But there is unique talent demonstrated on this disc,
and there's always room for that in Winnipeg. - :: Melissa Martin::
If this band has a fault, it's that they recorded and mixed their album at
Winnipeg's own Studio 11; a studio witch, despite its reputatio as the best
in the city, routinely makes mixing errors that even an amateur would know
to avoid.
To be more specific, the vocals are mixed too high....way too high.
The rest of the band falls just short of inaudible, which is a real
shame, since they are playing some interesting music. Fuller delivers a disc full
of straightforward guitar-based pop rock, but it's good pop-rock, with interesting,
if simple song stuctures. The style is sort of hybrid grunge and funk, reminiscent of
I mother Earth with scatchier, less manic vocals - though the band eschews I Mother Earth's
wild rhythms in favor of a steadier groove and more of a shoegazer feel.
All in all, a promising debut married by a poor production job.

Formed in 1998, Fuller quickly became familiar name on the Winnipeg bar scene, leading to the recording of a three song demo in the summer of 1999.

The summer of 1999 also brought new accomplishments for the emerging band, when they were asked to perform several times for the Winnipeg-hosted Pan Am Games including gigs at the Forks and at the several Athletes Village locations, introducing them to a wider audience of spectators and international athletes. “If there is one thing that is true, it is the feeling that we get on stage when we play for a full house. Confident in their music and future together, the members of Fuller are taking their career one step at a time. The next stage for the band was the release of their debut self-titled album, which they recorded at Studio 11 with Rob Shallcross, and Juno-award winning producer Brandon Friesen. The disc was released on Saturday, November 24th, 2001, @ Wise Guys on campus and promises to launch Fuller’s career to the next level.
