Bio

As a jazz musician who grew up listening to Miles, Coltrane, and Rollins, their mastery of technique and display of artistic genius inspired me to become a musician. This desire only grew when my tastes expanded to include Fusion, Jazz-Funk, and R&B artists such as The Brecker Brothers, Steps Ahead, Billy Cobham, Herbie Hancock, and Sly Stone, to name a few. Over the years and throughout my career I have come to expect strong musicianship from myself and any other professional artist who has an audience.

Funkasaurus Rex was created by my frustration with the generic R&B that is now offered too much of the time. Feeling somewhat like a dinosaur, I called on some of the top veteran NY session- players who shared my musical values and created Funkasaurus Rex.

With this band, I enjoy bringing great R & B / Funk songs from the past into a new era with a jazz perspective. Plus our original material comes out of that same lineage and maintains an artistic integrity that our audience has come to expect - quality is the focus. Great music results.

Funkasaurus Rex recorded 8 songs 'live' in one 10-hour session to create 'Etched in Stone.' This demanded an incredibly high-level of musicianship and discipline from all the musicians.

Funkasaurus Rex is a testament to musicians who play for the love of playing. Each member of the band is a heavy-weight in their own right. They all pour their hearts into this project, motivated by the challenges our music has to offer. We enjoy working together and presenting a body of uniquely demanding material that requires your attention, however feel free to dance. We hope you enjoy what Funkasaurus Rex has to offer- REAL Funky Music ain't extinct!

Thanks,
Joey Berkley
