"Iowa City Area Votes FunkDaddies Best Local Band in Annual Press-Citizen Poll"

Friday, July 21, 2006. In its annual Best of the Area Poll, The Iowa City Press-Citizen ranked FunkDaddies as Best Local Band/Performer for 2006. The following is the Press-Citizen's article.

Just call them the kings of funk. We're talking about the five members of FunkDaddies, 2006's best local band.

Inspired by all the great Motown stars, Tower of Power, and Earth, Wind & Fire, FunkDaddies plays funk, soul and R&B from the late '60's and '70's. It plays music of its own as well, and currently is working on fresh music for its audience.

"We're just trying to emulate the great funk style show bands of the '70's, but we do it our own way," said Ken Duncan, FunkDaddies' drummer, percussionist and vocalist.

FunkDaddies opened for The Beach Boys last year and shattered opening night records at the Iowa City Jazz Festival.

"We love playing outside concerts because it gives people of all ages the chance to enjoy our music," Duncan said.

Catch FunkDaddies at area night clubs, outdoor concerts, corporate events and private parties. Check out FunkDaddies' Web site, www.funkdaddies.com, for a full list of upcoming shows.

We would like to thank all our friends who voted for us for this award. You are the reason we love to play. - Iowa City Press-Citizen
