Bio

Funktion Junction is a Twin Cities based Soul/Funk dance band. They are a fusion of 7 individuals with diverse backgrounds in music. Combined, they have more than 10 decades of professional experience.

The following is a closer look at each of FunkJunc's members:

Yolanda Roth is a singer/songwriter from Milwaukee, WI and a recent Twin Cities transplant. Trained at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, she has performed with bands like Climate Control, Big Head, and Rhythm & Torch. Yolanda has been writing and performing for more than 17 years and works as a Voice Trainer.

Gary Hodges hails from Peoria, IL, but was raised in the Twin Cities. Gary attended the University of Minnesota as a Vocal Performance Major. He sang briefly with Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company and did chorus work with the Minnesota Opera before completing "Black Olive", his first solo project on a local record label. Gary has been singing and collaborating with local artists like Debbie Duncan, Robert "Eddie" Robertson, Lori Dokken, and Sanford Moore for over 18 years.

Michael Mothershed was born in Kansas City, he started out as a child prodigy gospel singer He then spent 13 years in the U.S military while working part time as a studio background singer. His talents allowed him to be pursued to perform voiceovers for the r&b division at Capitol Records, Inc in L.A. He performed background vocal tracks and voice overs for national r&b acts, Epic Recording legends, Luther Vandross and Jeffery Osborne. He has competed and won countless vocal contests nationally and is renowned for being able to recreate the Motown, Stax and Philly Sound of balladeers, past and present. His tenor and baritone command of vocals along with his confidence is entertaining and allows him to engage any audience who loves r&b/funk or just good dance music.

On Lead and Rhythm Guitar, Bob Breu, comes to us from Faribault, Minnesota where he has played in numerous local bands his entire adult career. Bob is an excellent lead guitarist who gives more of a rock style edge to his playing. His solo's are impeccable his sense of rhythm is dead on. He adds a wonderful gritty style to the music of Funktion Junction R&B rhythm machine. Bob is an excellent musician who brings his unique style and incredible energy and expertise to the band.?

Bassist, Bill "BillyClub" Snyder is a retired law enforcement officer. Bill spent 23 years with the St. Paul Police Department and another 10+ years with the Ramsey County Sheriffs Department, hence the name "BillyClub". Bill played bass in a local band as a teenager but didn't play again until his mid 50's. He grew up loving Motown, R&B, Funk, Soul and Blues music which has carried over to his musical career. His bass playing has been influenced by Motown legends James Jamerson, Bob Babbitt and others.?

Keyboardist, Momoh Freeman, a native of Liberia, is a classically trained pianist. Momoh is the youngest member of the band but don't let that fool you. He is a pianist who can play anything from Bach to Zappa. His talent is amazing...His playlist is unlimited and his keyboard solos are phenomenal. Oh and one more thing: He is always smiling!?

Originally from New York, Dave DeGennaro moved to the Twin Cities in 1998 and has been active on the music scene ever since. He has played in Rock, R&B, Zydeco, Cajun and Country bands, and even played keyboards in an ABBA tribute band.

Dave is also an award-winning composer and performer of children’s music. In 2010, he received an Artist Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board to compose and record Monkey Mind Pirates, an educational operetta that teaches kids about yoga and mindfulness. The recording won Creative Child Magazine’s 2011 “Preferred Choice Award” for children’s music. He continues to perform with this production throughout the upper Midwest
