"Sample of our reviews"

Band Charting and Reviews
"Lost in Missisippi" is an absolutely tight and attractive album. This record is pure fun. Give Us More!!

Dietmar Hoscher , Concerto Magazine, Austria, June/July 2001

With their elegant chord changes, punchy melodies, soulful backing vocals and two strong creative personalities at the helm, they might be the closest thing to Steely Dan to be found in Blues.

Ed Ivey, Blues Revue November 2001

This Disc might be said to be a guilty pleasure for this writer, but they consistently lay down a strong groove, Bare sings soulfully, and there is fine support from the various players. Also, the songs certainly are not simply the same old hackneyed themes one has heard before.

Ron Weinstock, Cadence Magazine/November 2001

The Messiahs play in a rocked-out New Orleans style that suits their concept.

Living Blues Nov/Dec 99

There was some really good musicianship here, some tasteful playing and cool grooves. I particularly liked "Lost in Mississippi."

Bruce Iglauer/Alligator Records

Just got this CD last night at the studio-funny as hell. You guys are sick and I dig it! Played Crawdaddy-O on tonight's show.

I enjoyed listening to it before we inserted it into the Blues Bytes Blues Machine. We are also giving it attention on our live Netcasts Wednesday Nights. We are making it a feature and will complete the entire album over a course of about four weeks.

Mike-Blues Bytes

A mixture of Funk and Blues that makes you tap your feet, with some groaning lyrics provided by front man Doug Bare. Unique and inventive, but essentially down home New Orleans music.

WWOZ New Orleans

The CD is filled with various styles of Blues that are all performed extremely well, with some of the most downtown funkiest lyrics (not to mention the bass playing and keyboards.

Zydecom Louisiana Music magazine

They're great players who have added a storyboard element to an organic guitar, organ and drum framework... Nice work!

Ed Ivey, Blues Revue Magazine, Jan/Feb 2000

Not exactly 'Joe's Garage' but similar in structure and content, with over-the-top New Orleans soul and rock replacing Zappa freakishness.

Blues Access Winter 1999

If you like exotic things, you will enjoy this good CD. Based on blues, you can find on it a little touch of funk, hard core, gospel, and even just a little bit of punk. Instrumentally speaking, this drum, guitar, keyboard and synthesizer trio is good in all the ways through. A very special good record.

La Hora de Blues- Barcelona, Spain

Its time to get down and dirty in the Big Easy. Two music scene vets have collaborated to make rhythm and blues that's as tasty as can be. Doug Bare's impassioned vocals sound much like Ruth Brown's.

Lykos Network

The Band is a real good band. The vocals have a great tone. The Guitar is great. The solos are nice. You know, it sounds like that 'South of I-10 music that I love. The real Mardi Gras Music. I enjoyed it very much. I'd like to see you live.

Johnny Sandlin / Producer for Capricorn Records / Allman Brothers

The Messiahs Funk out some of the best butt-bustin', butt-thrustin', behind the beat grooves around. These guys are a riot, I'd hang with them anytime.

Dirty Linen - August 2001

Original material, sound vocals and great instrumentation are the hallmark of this independently produced album. The boys really identified themselves right when they coined their name 'Funky Blues Messiahs' for that is what this album is made of. This one is a solid 'A'.

Bio

It all started with Funky Blues Messiahs' first CD 'The Further Adventures of Reverend P.P.Pettibones Traveling Tent Revival'. It is a romp through Louisiana and it's surrounding southern neighbors-with an old fashion New Orleans-style blues-injected funk soundtrack. Opening track "Crawdaddy-O" was selected to open the first episode of MTV's "Real World at New Orleans". With that .....the album snowballed and got put on the playlist on Radio stations in 14 countries and achieved great reviews in music magazines all over the world.

On their follow-up album, 'Lost in Mississippi' they pick up the story line where they left off. with this album they have built an explosive new CD of exciting New Orleans influenced music. This CD cultivated the award of being the 10th most Downloaded Blues Track Ireland Oct 2005.

In 2000 / 2001 they were selected to be the House band for Universal Studios' Mardi Gras where they played in front of thousands of people every night. Vocalist/Keyboardist Doug Bare know as "Big Daddy" has shared the stage and studio as a member of Mothers Finest, Blackfoot, John Mayall and Paul Davis.

Its 2009 and We have a New CD titled "Crawzilla" Some of our best work yet. With great songwriting and performances this CD will be our best!!! Guaranteed to get your Mardi Gras started early..........
