"Funsho Sits Down With The Hot Box"

Funsho Joseph Adenugba, most known for his stage name “Funsho,” is a Nigerian-American vocalist and guitarist making a big name for himself in the DMV. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Funsho later relocated at the age of seven to Lanham, Maryland, where he would later grow up. Following his adolescent years, Funsho ended up attending the University of Maryland where he would release his first musical project in 2009 titled Love Acoustically. Later that year, Funsho would team up with several other UMD students to create the band, Urban Cartel. In Urban Cartel is where Funsho would eventually break out as the lead vocalist for the group. While increasing their notoriety within the DMV, the band would eventually work their way up to doing bigger shows like opening for Nelly, Big Sean, Dom Kennedy and even performing at SXSW. After spending 5 years touring, performing, and releasing music with his band Urban Cartel, Funsho decided it was time to break away and focus on his solo career. In doing so, Funsho would drop his second solo effort titled S.H.E. (Sounds Have Emotions), which released this past September. Lead by the single “Tonight,” this smooth and mellow 8-track project fuses sounds of hip-hop, soul, and dance due to production contributions from Chef Belin and Blvck Rose. Making music that is truly a mood and emotionally driven is Funsho’s way of refreshing the music scene with tunes reminiscent of sounds loved by our elders but also that of the much in power-Millennials.
We were able to catch up with the Nigerian singer to discuss his start as a musician and what the future holds for him as a solo artist.
Check out what he had to say below. - TheHotbox.TV

Bio

DC area artist Fùnsho (formerly known as Seph Ade) is the personification of the age-old cliché that states, “Art imitates life.” Although there is nothing cliché about his music, the singer/songwriter has an incredible knack for synthesizing the passion, joys, anxieties, and emotions of his tumultuous relationships into relatable and honest R&B tunes. Influenced by luminaries like Lauryn Hill, D’angelo and John Legend, Fùnsho explores territory oft forgotten by peers in his generation while pushing past the sonic boundaries of the R&B genre.

Building on the success of his solo acoustic debut album, "Love Acoustically" and his well received covers on Youtube, Fùnsho  released his second album “S.H.E. (Sounds Have Emotions) on September 22nd. “S.H.E.”, which takes a noticeably different, producer driven approach, is an eclectic, digitally progressive body of work that draws distinct influences from hip-hop, soul and dance music.
