Bio

Futhi’s musical journey (like most) starts from an early age and is influenced by a range of people – notably her grandmother and later musical greats like Busi Mhlongo and Mbongeni Ngema, with her debut album being produced by Mbongeni Ngema himself.

uMjedevu is the title of Futhi’s debut album. The album is, without doubt, a labour of love. It touches all aspects of our journey as a people. It talks to love, African mysticism and hope. Futhi’s rich and beautiful voice tells a story that few could tell of who we are. uMjedevu is produced by the legendary Mbongeni Ngema and features some very talented musicians and instrumentalists that shared the studio with Futhi – the likes of Brian Thusi, Matshitshi Ngema and Afro-Soul (the group). The recording took place at the world-class studio facilities at the KZN Music House.

The album was released in October 2011 and since then, Futhi has graced a number of stages throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Before the release, she was entertaining the FIFA World Cup fans in different venues in 2010 and has been part of numerous campaigns around health and healthy lifestyles.

A star was born some years ago is Matatiele, south of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban). She was christened Ntombifuthi, because her parents received yet another girl. We called her Futhi (meaning “again”) because again we are blessed with someone to compare to our very own musical greats like Busi Mhlongo, Miriam Makeba and Yvonne Chaka-Chaka.
