Hey, Fearless fans! This week I was back on the road for an extra special review. Monday night, I came out to Chicago’s Elbo Room to see new friends, Future Pilot. This Monday night, Future Pilot thrilled the Chicago audience. Future Pilot opened their set with the performance of Sinking Ship. I instantly thought of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin upon hearing the dark lyrics and heavy guitar rhythms. Future Pilot superbly captured the psychedelic vibe. The audience was hooked on the melody to No One Escapes. Their hardcore rock sound received enthusiastic applause.

One major highlight of Future Pilot’s performance was the lead vocals I enjoyed how Derek’s vocals set the tone for each song. He displayed such a great vocal range. For instance, during the performance of Subhuman, Derek sang a beautiful hypnotic melody. Future Pilot also added some digitalized vocals for a few songs as well.

It was the amazing instrumentals that turned me into a serious Future Pilot fan. The instrumentals included many guitar harmonies. During Subhuman, the band changed up their generally upbeat tempo to capture a softer, haunting mood. The audience responded well to the long guitar solos that dominated the instrumental and finish. Their biggest hit, No One Escapes, featured lively rhythmic sounds and crashing crescendos. Plus, while Derek changed a broken guitar string, the band treated the audience to an extra drum solo and impromptu instrumental.

Though it was a short set, Future Pilot absolutely amazed the Elbo Room, crowd. I highly recommend catching this extraordinary band while on tour. Hopefully the band returns soon for another Chicago performance. Also, be sure to grab a copy of their debut album. My personal favorite track is Ghost in My Dream.
