FYI (For Your Information)

FYI has taken to task and finessed, the DIY ethic of making music. They rarely find themselves tripped up in the wires and tire spikes that tend to get thrown in the way of developing talent in an often fickle music industry. A sense of purpose and direction are not lost on FYI. In fact, this St. Catharines, ON quintet pack a powerful pop/punk sucker punch with their earnest tunes, and have single-handedly turned their dedicated local following into undeniable wide-spread appeal. They have the heavy guitars and the heavy radio rotation to prove it.

The band’s debut single Into The Outer Place can be heard on 97.7 HTZ-FM (St. Catharines). The song peaked at #3 over its month long stretch on the station’s Top 9 at 9, and FYI are also the most recent winners of the 97.7 HTZ-FM Rock Search Contest. The HTZ-FM competition has crowned past winners, Finger 11 and The Trews with the same trophy (which includes studio time at Metalworks studios and $7,500 in cold hard cash) and is now hoisted high above FYI’s aptly mohawked and mop-topped heads.

On October 10 2006, FYI released their self-produced debut. FYI have been powerfully slated on bills with Thornley, Sloan and an opening slot at the MADE IN CANADA BASH (Sarnia, On - June 30/06) with Cypress Hill, Default, Tonic, Hedley, Ill Scarlet, Idle Sons, and many more. The band also secured a lucrative deal with Gibson guitars (www.gibson.com) who will be outfitting the band with guitars and gear for major events. “We just want to write music & have fun,” declares the lighthearted, highly trafficked FYI Myspace page (www.myspace.com/foryourinformation). With approaching 100,000+ profile views and boasting a ‘drillion’ friends, all posted audio tracks have been streamed thousands of times – total plays are over 100,000 and increasing every day! Within their myspace profile FYI note that they formed the band as quickly as possible after school finished to avoid falling in to the mundane trap of 9 to 5 work days, and writing cheques to pay the bills. However, FYI don’t readily shirk off getting behind good causes, using their music to direct good will and writing cheques to things they believe in.

FYI has not only been a musically creative and rewarding outlet for its five members, but the music has grown to include fundraising tours for such causes as; Hurricane Katrina Relief, The Red Cross, and War Child. In the past year, FYI has raised and donated almost $10,000 to The Red Cross simply by performing at and organizing their own benefit shows to assist these causes important to the band.
