Bio

Let’s talk about the joy of music. A universal language that engulfs you in its magic, impossible to grasp but when you do feel it, it’s on every level.
. “Music has always been a safe haven for me , ever since growing up as a child singing and playing in my high school bands and choir, I wanted to create a sound that was simple, raw and felt like you were about to explode into thin air when it hits you” says Adrian of Fynyx Nation.
Fynyx Nation, is the brain child of Adrian Essiet featuring the fiery Violinist, Miriam AKA Hikari Violin, the concept of the act came almost entirely by accident, Adrian had been playing and collaborating with other artist in Vancouver for a few years, dabbling with different genres, and being the lead singer for his former band AI Vertigo until he left in 2013. He would spend days to months in solitude writing, experimenting with, and arranging different song ideas on his piano until it magically all came together.
Miriam had also been playing her violin both solo and with other bands in Victoria Island and surroundings, adding a different element to the all too familiar; guitar bass and drum acts that sprawled all over town. The 2 initially made contact in 2011 when Adrian posted an ad for a band but finally got together in 2013 by a chance meeting, and has been a fun ride ever since.
No two songs have been exactly the same, elements of cello sounds, dark ethereal themes, funky upbeat grooves, bells and of course a touch of the electric violin have been the bedrock to the sounds of Fynyx Nation. Maybe contradictory as some songs are suggestive of a party anthem whereas others are vulnerable, dark and soul bearing, Adrian simply says ‘I truly represent all of that, I’m a kid at heart , I love to have fun but many times very introspective and question almost everything in life from love, hate, relationships, wars, human divide, to even our existence, and so it’s only fair to channel all of this into my music, it’s that trueness that allows me to deliver it with sincerity”

Adrian writes best in brutal solitude, no humans around to distract, no flickering TV noise, no altered state of mind, in these moments he says he can listen to that tiny voice in his head and bring out all of that beautiful disaster. The debut album Chasing Shadows is set to be out in summer of 2013.
