Bio

Alternative folk trio Gabriel Kelley blends the honesty and simplicity of country music with the intimacy and earnestness of contemporary folk, creating a sound as unique as it is timeless, and refreshing as it is contemplative. Having drawn comparisons to artists ranging from Nick Drake to Whiskeytown, this Nashville, TN via Athens, GA band relies heavily on its thoughtful, acoustic-based arrangements, combined with yearning, reflective lyricism. Although the name Gabriel Kelley is derived from the middle names of its lead singer and principal songwriter, it actually refers to the entire band comprised of three core members: Peter Gabriel Kelley Zorbanos, Will Harrison, and Jason Cheek. After a chance meeting at a local coffeehouse open-mic night in the spring of 2005, Gabriel and Will began writing and performing as an acoustic duo, delving wholeheartedly into the rustic sounds of Appalachia, as well as the uncompromising attitude of alternative country. Jason soon rounded out the group, adding an understated intimacy to an already tightly knit unit. Since the band’s inception, it has undertaken a constant schedule of performing, rehearsing, and recording.

The summer of 2007 has proven itself both a busy and exciting season for the band, culminating in its recent move to Nashville, TN. Gabriel has signed a publishing deal with L’lle Des Auteurs Publishing, owned by country music superstar Tim McGraw. In addition, the band is working in conjunction with RPM Management, which is owned and operated by revered country music manager Scott Siman, whose main act is none other than Tim McGraw. Currently, Gabriel Kelley is writing and recording their new material for a potential album/record deal in the near future. Touring, a serious focus for the band, also weighed heavily in their decision to have Nashville as a home base. With its central location in the southeast, the band is looking to begin stretching out its area of performance, focusing on covering the entire southeast, all the while maintaining its status as an Athens band.
