"Newest Reviews for Wide"

“...with her angelic vocal ability and acoustic guitar playing she has created a CD (wide) that is enthralling and ethereal. I can’t think of a better way to describe the music than ‘the allegorical love child of Peter Gabriel and Joni Mitchell’” - 1340mag.com

"Gabrielle is major talent as yet unrecognized"

"This CD is so good that when I tell you how good, you're going to think I am on Gabrielle's payroll. Seriously. Of course, the ones who are lucky enough to have already discovered it will read and nod, for while the specifics may vary, the sentiment is one: Gabrielle is major talent as yet unrecognized. Lucky for me, though, not unrealized."

" JSTOP21 Pick of the Week - "She Smiles""

When the acclaimed New York Blues collective Blooze Junction lost their lead singer they asked, then little known, Gabrielle to front the seven piece cover band. After two years in the vocal bootcamp of performing all over the isle of Manhattan, she stepped out on her own.
The blues has mostly left from Gabrielle's strains. In its place is a sweet vocal range, which can catch the beat and ride each syllable on the high-hat, then shift straight to a high C with ease and poise. That poise leads her through Wide, her sophomore album, to a lyrically focused collection of Gabrielle originals.
That focus on lyrics influences the production, as "Close," and "Time after Time," though both instrumentally complex, allow Gabrielle to remain in the center of the sound. Her Upper Westside of Manhattan roots come through in the nagging of her parents on "Neptune." The song's liberation through sublimation and creative focus is mesmerizing. The pulse of her native New York City seems far away from "Nightly," a song steeped in calm and sensuality. There is a discernible twang in her otherwise sugary sweet voice that allows "She Smiles" to flirt with both country's swing and rock's intensity. The jazz inflected "I Know You Know" drops from a lightly tapped tom into a funky driving beat. It is the only song which envelops her voice, yet "I Know You Know" never loses it.
Gabrielle places herself among the finest young female vocalists producing music today with Wide; New York City gets all the best stuff.

Bio

Gabrielle plays as a solo act, duo, trio or full band.

Acclaimed New York City recording artist Gabrielle, self released her second studio album,“wide” at the end of 2005. "Wide" is a collection of original lyric driven songs surrounded by an eclectic mix of world beats and fresh rhythmic textures with intoxicating hints of folk, rock and blues.

Since WIDE was sent off into the great big world Gabrielle won the bronze in the Festival International song writing contest for best original pop song, "Stay" took an honorbale mention in the 2006 Billboard songwriting contest & "Neptune" took honorable an mention in the Positive Pop Song contest. She has had songs featured on FX's starved, and A&E's DOG the bounty hunter. She was a featured artist at the Millennium Music Conference, the Dewey Beach Music Festival, the Rosendale Music Festival, among others. "She Smiles" was placed on the international release of "Females on Fire II", “Tell Me” was placed as a featured track on the international release of “Protest Songs for a Better World”, and she was asked to contribute an original interpitation of an October Project song for "Covered" which was released this past Winter.

Gabrielle’s songs reflect her unique voice and individuality as well as the richness of early influences ranging from Joni Mitchell, Delta Blues & Bob Dylan. A powerful vocalist as well as a songwriter, Gabrielle began sparkling to audience attention in 1996 when she was asked to front the NYC popular blues cover-band, Blooze Junction, which featured a 7-piece backup band and a large NYC following.

In 1998 she started her own original music project and all the pieces came together. That year, her song “Line of Your Leg” (dreamtown) won the Spree National Songwriting Contest and “Threw It All Away” (dreamtown) took an honorable mention in the Great American Songwriting Contest. In 2000, she self-produced her debut release “dreamtown” which received critical acclaim and was voted the 3rd best unsigned CD of the year by Music Connection Magazine. Gabrielle toured the east coast playing in clubs, colleges and music festivals. She was a featured artist at the 2001 Bethlehem New Musik Festival, the National Academy of Popular Music’s 38th Songwriter’s Hall of Fame showcase and a featured solo performer at the 2001 Nashville New Music Conference (among others).

2002 brought the release of a solo live EP “Live and On Her Own” which found itself on the airwaves of acoustic music shows, college radio, NPR as well as several internet radio stations. Gabrielle started experimenting with new musicians and formed a trio with Nicholas D’Amato (Poppa Chubby, Spiraling) on bass and Clancy (Billy Porter, Danielia Cotton) on drumcussion. With these new musician’s backing her up a new sound evolved along with a songwriting surge. Clancy, Nick and Gabrielle hit the studio in June of 2004 and “WIDE” was born. Already the CD is eliciting comparisons to Peter Gabriel and Patty Griffin drawing comment for its deep emotional authenticity and strikingly beautiful musical arrangements.

Gabrielle grew up in New York in the culturally driven upper west side. The product of an eccentric multi talented inventor (dad) and a commonsensical mother, she was always encouraged to follow whatever creative urge hit her at any moment. For most of her young life it was visual art, but Gabrielle could always be found singing in her school choir. Her musical talent was recognized early on. She was a featured singer on several of world renown cantor Paul Zim’s Hebrew records, a featured soprano representing the United States at Venezuela’s Simon Bolivar festival and in St. Patrick’s cathedral international holiday celebration. At 16 she was given a guitar, learned to play by ear and with in a year was performing at legendary places as the Speakeasy and Sun Mountain Café. Like one of her main influences, Joni Mitchell, Gabrielle is a visual artist, and has alternated her exploration of music with painting and sculpture. She continues to bridge the worlds of music and visual arts, and has been acknowledged not only for her fine arts, but also for her extraordinary CD packaging for other musical artists.
