The best kept secret in music

"UK's Independent Online"

Southern Exposure

The South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, gives more than 1,200 bands the chance to make it big, says Paul Sexton

The Continental check-in lounge at Gatwick last week was crammed with bleary British musicians on their way to the best little gig-house in Austin, Texas. For me, the South by Southwest music festival got underway when I boarded a plane alongside Bloc Party, Breed 77 and the Raveonettes, and ended four nights later in a postage-stamp venue, where a singer I'd never heard of strummed on the window-ledge and sang like an angel.

And the stranger on the window-ledge? Gabriel Mann, singing sweet and funky soul in a tiny spot off Congress. We'll all be able to hear his voice soon, as he supports Alanis Morissette on her UK shows next month. - The Independent

"HITS Magazine"

L.A.-based indie artist Gabriel Mann, a remarkably talented, young pop craftsman whose soaring voice elevate his Peter Gabriel-like tunes to high drama... - Mike Morrison

"Music Connection"

"Sometimes you have to just go out and begin to create your own luck." This forthright attitude toward their career has quietly elevated Gabriel Mann to heights which, only several years ago, seemed like a pipe dream. Additionally, an aggressive approach has landed the band airplay on Chris Douridas' KCRW/AOL Session's program. - Scott Dudelson

"Radio & Records (R&R)"

Remember this name: Gabriel Mann. He’s coming out with a new album this year, and I will be so bold as to say that he could be the format’s [Hot AC's] hottest new artist in 2005. - Julie Kertes

Feeling a bit camera shy

Gabriel Mann had the good fortune of opening for Alanis Morissette's European tour in April 2005 (including a sold-out show for 10500 at Rotterdam's Ahoy) and for Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze) in the US in May. Mann's music has been compared to The Police, John Mayer and Elvis Costello. Songs on the new album range from the quirky Elton John-meets-Maroon 5 "OK Alone," to the anthemic "Undertow," and the sad-sweet cello and vocal heartbreaker, "When We Are One."

Gabe's forceful piano playing is backed by Carson Cohen on bass and Adam Marcello on drums, and an array of guest vocalists and musicians. His fans have packed shows ranging from solo performances at intimate venues like Hollywood's legendary Hotel Cafe to opening slots with full band for international artists such as Jamie Cullum across North America. He has developed a large and loyal fan base because of his intensely personal yet universal lyrics, hook-laden melodies, an undeniable voice and winning, dry humor.

Mann's talents have been put to use on various film and TV projects, including his current stint as resident songwriter for Fox's Emmy-winning series Arrested Development and many songs featured on MTV's Road Rules and Real World.

Radio & Records recently celebrated Mann's emergence into the spotlight by naming him one of their Artists to Watch for 2005.
