Biography

GABRIEL MARITZ - PRETORIA'S TWANG-MAN !

Gabriel started making music more or less 15 years ago. Early influences were The Beatles, Elvis Presley and harder Rock groups like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. In 1999 Gabriel formed the South African Hard Rock band, Maywar. Maywar received a lot of praise, especially since they were such a young band.

But as you journey through life, music tastes change and so did Gabriel's . Later on he beca
me influenced by Country and Southern Rock music and also some good Afrikaans music.

Living in the UK for a while, he was part of many Bands and Projects. Upon returning to South Africa, Gabriel joined the band, Juggernaught, for a while, before deciding to embark upon a solo career.

Playing various clubs, pubs, venues and functions throughout Gauteng, Gabriel started recording his own material in 2012. The first two tracks to be released from the sessions is the Country-twanged Rock song, 'Come On In" and the Afrikaans Partytime song "Die Boere Wil Braai" (The Farmers Wanna BBQ).

2013 will see the release of the Full album and promises to be a big year. Stay tuned.

Come On In

Written By: Gabriel Maritz

COME ON IN

I never grew up thinkin’ the same as them
Never quite understood their where and their when
But I understood the smile upon your face
When you walked right in and took over this place

Your eyes told storied, and you’ve seen better day
Lived through Hope and Glory, and watched time slip away
But you still have dreams, hopes and fears
But you can never turn back these years

Come on In, make my day
You do your thing and then walk away
You’ve built these walls so strong and tough
But I saw you, girl, yeah, I called your bluff

I never thought that we’d end up like this
Never thought I’d long so much for your kiss
But I understood the look on your face
When you walked right out and emptied this place

Come on In, make my day
You do your thing and then walk away
You’ve built these walls so strong and tough
But I saw you, girl, yeah, I called your bluff

But beware, ‘cause there’s a dusty road ahead
There’s stop signs everywhere and all the traffic lights are red
Yeah, if you go down this road, you might just end up dead

Come on In, make my day
You do your thing and then walk away
You’ve built these walls so strong and tough
But I saw you, girl, yeah, I called your bluff

A cold Beer at sunset
Or a Whiskey at the end of a long night
Another gig at some bar ended up in a fight
I’m spitting the poison of jealousy, hatred and spite

Come on In, make my day
You do your thing and then walk away
You’ve built these walls so strong and tough
But I saw you, girl, yeah, I called your bluff

Die Boere Wil Braai (Afrikaans)

Written By: Gabriel Maritz

SOLO

Break Chorus

Wil julle Koerant lees ?
Nee ! Ons Wil Braai
Wil julle die Wereld red ?
NEE ONS WIL BRAAI !!!
