"Jazz icon Oscar Groomes calls the sizzle on KBTS"

"Gabriel is back with another funky contemporary jazz album, a collaboratuion with Jeff Lorber. Hasselbach plays trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone and flute. He soars, soothes and keeps the melodies crisp. They waste no time getting down to business with the opener "King James", the first of ten cuts that sizzle. Gabriel and company are energized and when you plug this one in, you too will be Kissed By The Sun!" - O's Place reviews

"Educator, Reviewer Ronald Jackson shares his excitement for KBTS"

"His trumpet leading the way with pure, solid clarity and force, Hasselbach reaches into the engine of contemporary jazz ....

.... Kissed By the Sun brings variety and depth, real depth, to the genre and is truly a must-hear. With Lorber, it is one great collaboration and a demonstration of what true talent can create." - SmoothJazzRide.com

"Terry Sweeney lays on the kudos for KBTS"

"You might think that Gabriel Mark Hasselbach might have been a bit nervous recording a follow-up CD to his 2011 Canadian Smoothies award winning project Told Ya So. But that’s hardly the case. And though his previous CD is a hard act to follow, the west coast trumpeter is literally hotter than ever with his new release Kissed By The Sun." - WAVE.FM

"UK Reviewer Denis Poole raves about KBTS"

After his 2010 project ‘Told Ya So’, horn player Gabriel Mark Hasselbach, aka Gabriel, certainly had a lot to live up to. It was a recording that brimmed with understated magnificence and included contributions from Jeff Lorber, Paul Brown, Marc Antoine and Darren Rahn. Now Gabriel has re-united with Lorber for the splendid ‘Kissed By The Sun’. Not only does it live up to expectations but in fact blows them sky high. With all ten tracks written produced and engineered by these two fine musicians (and with Lorber variously playing guitar, bass and keys throughout) this is a body of work that is sure to be one of the highlights of the contemporary jazz year. - SmoothJazzTherapy.com

"DeeDee McNeil gushes about KBTS"

"When I first listened to Gabriel's "Kissed by the Sun" recording, I was impressed by the diversity he showed on his instrument. This was no one dimensional trumpet player. I could hear his hard bop edge. In fact, his straight-ahead side crept through, even when the production was smooth jazz and his soulfully influenced horn lines were punchy and unmistakably rooted in rhythm and blues. I thought to myself, this guy can play it all. Surprisingly, he even added flute as an instrument he mastered." - LAJazz.com

Bio

Gabriel is rather unique, in that he plays trumpet, alto and c flutes, flugelhorn, valve trombone, digital winds, and is a producer/engineer....

He was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, USA, but followed his muse to Vancouver, Canada, where he has been based until his relatively recent explosion on the World Stage. His many albums have withstood the test of time, and he has steadily built up his body of work, finally attracting the broader worldwide attention he deserves.
Gabriel has toured the world (Montreux, North Sea, UK, Japan, Singapore, KL, Philippines, Mexico, Canada, and the US) and continues to develop his fan base through live appearances, extensive radio and TV exposure, and the steadfast and devoted internet networking of his many acolytes.
Summer 2012 ushered in his latest tour de force Kissed By The Sun, the follow up to his 2010 home run Told Ya So, which spawned three singles and numerous awards and spent 18 months on the charts. Kissed By The Sun is co-produced with, and features Jeff Lorber, as well as a plethora of stellar guests such as Chuck Loeb, Brian Bromberg, Rob Tardik, Walle Larsson, and Rock Hendricks. The first week it was released, the featured single Starpixie jumped right on the most added charts, and rose to #15 on Billboard. The second single 'Lock It Up' got to #13 on Billboard and a third single is on the way. KBTS made the Groove Jazz Charts Top 100 for 2012 and got to #23 on the world internet charts.
Although he has had notable straight ahead jazz successes, including a lengthy eight week run on the Jazz Week Mainstream charts, Gabriel prefers the more rhythmically and harmonically succinct domain of contemporary jazz. The improvisational content of Gabriels playing is rich but concise, drawing from the Blue Mitchell/ Donald Byrd canon, and reflects his lineage in a contemporary format.
Besides a JUNO Award (Canadian equivalent of a Grammy), two JUNO/Technics All Star Band Awards, a West Coast Music Award, a Jazz In The Park Best Instrumental Performance Award, an Ampex Golden Reel Award, and several gold and platinum albums to his credit (with his earlier group Powder Blues and others), 2011 saw Gabriel win both prestigious Album of the Year and Instrumentalist of the Year awards at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards for Told Ya So. He also cracked the Billboard Top 50 with that album, which featured luminaries such as Paul Brown, Marc Antoine, Miles Black, Amanda Wood, Rock Hendricks, Jeff Lorber, and Darren Rahn.
He has recorded or performed with the likes of such varied artists as Michael Bubl (Gabriel performed with him extensively, recorded several albums with him, and produced the MB album Dream), Bob James, Jeff Lorber, Ernie Watts, Little Richard, George Benson, John Denver, The OJays, Ben E King, Paul Brown, Heart, Tom Scott, David Sanborn, Nikki Yanofsky, John Lee Hooker, and Long John Baldry, to name a few. Recent collaborations include Paul Hardcastle's #1 hit PH VII and Bob Baldwin's latest.
