Chanterelle Rain

Written By: Gail Noonan

Chanterelle Rain-©Gail Noonan 2004-6

At the end of the summer after endless blue skies
It's been so hot and sunny all the wells have gone dry
Good for tomatoes and ripening grain.
But we pray in mid-August for a Chanterelle rain.

A chanterelle rain for two days that's all
then back to the summer that's left before
If we get our wish then we know very well
the bliss that awaits when we find Chanterelles

Let it rain, chanterelle rain. Chanterelles

The heat makes us cranky and prone to complain
when suddenly caught in a chanterelle rain
For some its a nuisance with books left outside
open car windows and clothes on the line.

And then there are those who look up and smile,
Knowing what treasures there'll be in a while.
If we get our wish then we know very well
the bliss that awaits when we find Chanterelles

Let it rain, chanterelle rain. Chanterelles

A law biding citizen most of the time.
I try to act normally, toeing the line.
Until the season when I lose my mind.
Then I'll lie and I'll trespass, won't tell where I find...

Let it rain, chanterelle rain, ( X2)Chanterelles

The Powers Out

Written By: Gail Noonan

The power’s out,
for no apparent reason,
I can divine.
No wind to push the trees in
the hydro line.
The weather’s fine.
Who knows why?
Who knows?

The power’s out.
All the obligations,
have come undone.
A chance to sit in silence,
so rarely won.
The constant hum,
is gone now, is gone.

Bridge:
The flicker of the candle glow,
Keeps changing as the wick burns low.

A space in time,
a temporary break from the story line.
A lesson we can take when,
the lights come on.
Why rush along?
Who knows why?
Who knows why?
Who knows?
