Oumuamua
Independent release: March 2018

Oumuamua is Galactic Desperate's debut album, the
result of a series of recording sessions that took place throughout 3
years in Bogotá, Barranquilla, Miami, New York and Amsterdam. The album
was produced by Afro Estudio in Barranquilla and mastered by Mike Wells
in Los Angeles. It features collaborations with guest artists Joan Bas from Chile and
Zev Starmans from The Netherlands.
In Oumuamua, the Colombian quartet
brings decades of alternative and hard rock to the table. Yet they open
the musical landscape widely, breaking paradigms and giving in to
eclectic electronic experimentation. The album blends hard rock guitars with dance 80's synth pop grooves and punchy bass lines. And then it seamlessly morphs into industrial - early Depeche Mode - to the more modern sounds of NIN.

Oumuamua tells a story of transformation; of disconnection from an imposed system and re-connection with the realm of true human emotion. One by one, the songs describe the plight of a human stuck in an artificially created world who comes to realizes everyone is operating in autopilot mode. Revealing this world, he moves from false ambition to anger, to despair, and ultimately to selflessness and re-connection with the source of his humanity.

Bio

Galactic Desperates

21 years after the dissolution of their first band, Jaime Alzate, Felipe "Bif" Blanco, Gabriel Sabbagh and Jose Matera rejoin forces as Galactic Desperates.

Jaime, Felipe, Gabriel and Jose have come a long way since they pioneered the alternative 90's rock scene in their home town of Barranquilla. In the years following their local success with "Boveda Acustica", Jose went on to become a national rock icon with his band Los de Adentro. Jaime became the drummer of choice for the highest profile national and international musicians visiting the country. He also evolved into a virtuous electronic producer, synth arranger and music composer, sharing the stage and producing for various Grammy award winners and nominees. At the helm of Afro Estudio in Barranquilla he has produced countless hits for many emerging artists. Felipe traveled the world, got lost in philosophy and became a prolific songwriter on the side of many weird jobs. In the most remote locations of the world he carefully crafted his best jewels, which would later come out for the band's debut album, Oumuamua. Gabriel, the mastermind behind the band's reunion gathered up the forces in Miami, after years of being abducted by aliens. Voila! There was a band again.

Galactic Desperate's music dances freely in the space between Nine Inch Nails, Sigur Ros, Depeche Mode, The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem and Radiohead. The sound is nothing less than thrilling, filled with hypnotic synthesizers, hard rocking guitars, punching electro-acoustic beats and spacey vocals. The band's creative process starts with a rabid party of synth and heavy guitar riffs with dance beats that can last for hours. These soundscapes that extend for thousands of kilometers are then turned into songs in the alchemy laboratories: Jaime's Afro Estudio in Barranquilla and Felipe's dark and humid attic in The Netherlands.

One thing is for sure: you haven't heard anything like this. Music that makes your mind bend and your eyes pop out.
