Bio

GALEN, is a powerful singer & songwriter who combines modern pop and rock with a bluesy edge. She has impressively collaborated and recorded with many of hottest, most acclaimed writer/producers in the music business. And now, Galen is emerging as one of the music industry’s top, new artist discoveries.

Galen comes from a rich musical heritage – her grandfather Merrill Moore was a music pioneer in the 1950s, who released albums on Capitol Records and Bear Family Records. Moore was a renowned singer and piano player, whose unique style fused Western-swing, boogie-woogie and early R&B, and many music critics felt Moore’s music was a distinct influence on rockabilly artists, especially Jerry Lee Lewis. In fact, Moore has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame.

Galen has been singing since she could speak, and recording since she was 12. Having grown up in Dallas, Texas, Galen performed at many venues, including the American Airlines Center for both the Dallas Mavericks and the Dallas Stars games. When she was 16, she caught the attention of pro producer/writer/musician Rob Shrock, who is the longtime musical director for Burt Bacharach. Shrock has worked with other top artists such as Elvis Costello, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and LeAnn Rimes. Notably, Shrock was instrumental in developing LeAnn Rimes and Universal artist Mikaila at an early stage, and helped secure their first label deals.

Shrock worked closely with Galen in both Dallas and Los Angeles, and he remains a key member of Galen’s team, serving as musical director of her band, and as one of her record producers.

Galen also caught the attention of music exec Dale Kawashima, who previously was President of both Michael Jackson’s ATV Music and Irving Azoff’s Giant Music. Kawashima has also represented the publishing catalogs of Bruce Springsteen, Prince and Bob Dylan, and he currently runs two, popular online magazines, SongwriterUniverse and SingerUniverse. Kawashima saw Galen’s tremendous artist potential, and introduced her to many hit writer/producers, who have been equally impressed with her.

Galen’s list of writer/producer collaborators reads like a “Who’s Who” of modern pop & rock hitmakers. She worked directly with Clif Magness, who is known for writing & producing hits with Avril Lavigne (five songs on her multi-platinum Let Go album), Lisa Marie Presley (“Lights Out”), Wilson Phillips (“Impulsive”) and Jack Wagner (“All I Need”). Magness also has many cuts with such American Idol stars as Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken and Bo Bice. For Galen’s recording project, Magness produced his rock song “Me Just Being Me” (co-written by Oliver Leiber), and it sounds like a bonafide hit single.

Galen also struck up a great relationship with acclaimed writer/producer, Eric Bazilian. Bazilian is known for his work with Joan Osborne (he wrote the Grammy-nominated hit “One Of Us” and co-wrote most of her platinum album, Relish), Cyndi Lauper, Ricky Martin, Mick Jagger, and he co-founded the popular ‘80s rock band, the Hooters. Galen has worked with Bazilian at his studio in Philadelphia, and also in Los Angeles. They have recorded three songs together, including the deeply emotional, potential hit “Believe In You.”

Another noteworthy collaboration for Galen was with hit songwriter, Steve Booker, (Natalie Imbruglia, Stevie Nicks, Boyzone and Natalie Grant). Galen & Booker wrote the uptempo, super-hooky “What I Want,” which demonstrates her strong, songwriting ability.

In addition, Galen has collaborated and recorded excellent songs with many other top writer/producers, including Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Faith Hill, Jonny Lang, Bo Bice), Matthew Gerrard (Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney, Hilary Duff), Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow’s main writing partner & producer), Sam Watters & Louis Biancaniello (Jessica Simpson, Anastacia, Kelly Clarkson), and Jud Friedman (Whitney Houston, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins).

Now, with the completion of her new CD, Galen is showing the music industry what these top music pros already know, that she is a distinctive, new artist who is creating exceptional music. Galen has also formed a strong rock band (with Rob Shrock as musical director and featuring many top players), and she is currently performing shows in Los Angeles.
