Gandalf The Grey is a "rotor rock" band based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The band was formed in July 2009, after Matt Ford and Andy Bell's band Imute broke up. The duo wanted to form a new band, with a new style. The boys recruited Hayden Knight from Perth on bass and the legacy continued from there.

We all have so many different Influences from so many different genres, which is what we think sets our music apart from everyone else. Some of our major influences would have to be The Beatles (who isn’t influenced by them), Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Foals, Arctic Monkeys, The Who, Bright Eyes, B.B. King, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Strokes, The Mars Volta, Fall of Troy, Stevie Wonder, Sigur Ros and some local Brisbane bands such as Yves Klein Blue and Last Dinosaurs. The list really could go on forever.
