Bio

Gar Francis – He’s been called the hardest working songwriter in America.

Writing and producing for such acts as, The Doughboys, Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs, Jeanne Lozier, The Easy Outs, Jackie Kringle & The Elves, as well as his own solo projects including a newly released folk album titled “Love & Protest” and a soon to be released Americana album “The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same” due in 2010.

Recruited in 2005 as guitarist and songwriter for the legendary 60’s rock band The Doughboys, his song “Black Sheep” from their acclaimed first album “IS IT NOW?” was voted by “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” on Sirius Radio as the #2 “Coolest Song In The World” for the year 2008. The new single “I’m Not Your Man” (also written by Gar) from the newly released second album by the Doughboys “ACT YOUR RAGE” has also been voted as the #3 “Coolest Song In The World” for 2009. The Doughboys continue to receive outstanding reviews in magazines and newspapers nation wide as well as radio airplay throughout the world.

As a side project Gar wrote and produced two garage blues albums “Another Mule In The Barn” and “When The Devil Hits Home” as Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs. Songs from both albums are receiving airplay around the world as well as here in the USA. “When The Devil Hits Home” was awarded “Album of The Week” on Baker Street Radio in France on December 27, 2009. The album was in the top 10 in the Netherlands. In January of 2010 the album was in the top 5 at Sweet Home Music in France.
Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs have recently opened up for Peter Tork of the Monkees, the Swinging Neckbreakers, and Moreland & Arbuckle.

Vintage Guitar Magazine published a raving review in their April 2010 issue on Plainfield Slim’s first album “Another Mule In The Barn”

In the early part of 2000 Gar wrote and produced the critically acclaimed blues album “Queen Of Your Dreams” for Blues Diva Jeanne Lozier.

In 2009 Gar Francis wrote and produced the single “Rocket” as a tribute for the troops serving in the Armed Forces and performed it live for the troops at Fort Dix, New Jersey in the summer of that same year.

In the fall of 2009 Gar wrote and produced the single “Let’s Have A Rockin’ Christmas” for Jackie Kringle & the Elves. The single received great reviews as a classic rock song for the Christmas season.

So far 2010 has brought the release of the second Doughboys album and the first Gar Francis folk album “Love & Protest” which includes 14 original songs of daily life experiences of ordinary people, as well as acoustic versions of “Rocket” & “Raise A Hand”. The lyric and music of the song “Rocket” was shared with Pete Seeger who has taken time out of his very busy schedule to write two letters to Gar regarding the importance of a song like “Rocket” that helps to keep the veterans in our minds and hearts. The folk album also includes a song that is a tribute to Bob Dylan, “Above The Restless Crowd (July 29, 1965)” that speaks about how “we put the weight of the world on the ones that speak out loud”.

Gar currently is finishing his upcoming Americana album “The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same“, on the newly formed Bongo Boy Records as well as writing and producing the new single “Come On, Come On” for the rock band The Easy Outs which was released June 22, 2010.

The past four months Gar has been out promoting the Doughboys, Plainfield Slim & The Groundhawgs, and the Gar Francis Bands (electric and acoustic) on such radio programs as WRSU, WDIY, WFMU, and WNTI, as well as live broadcasts on such cable shows such as, Time/Warner’s “New York Rocks“, Cablevision’s Folk Show “Horses Sing None Of It”, and Toms River’s “The Kenny and Vinnie Show”. With live shows at The Dewey Beach Pop Festival, the Hoboken Street Fair, the Blues Festival at Centenary College, The Record Collector in Bordentown, Vintage Vinyl in Woodbridge, Crossroads in Garwood, The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, Maxwell’s in Hoboken, Showtime in Belvedere, and upcoming shows at BB Kings in NYC with the Yardbirds, and Albert Hall in Waretown, Gar still finds time for his first passion, writing songs.

Gar has received awards for songwriting from The John Lennon Song Contest, the Unisong Music Awards, and an Honorable Mention in the Billboard Song Contest.
