From Crib to Keyboard

It wasn't the radio playing, like her dad thought- it was Garnette, humming the theme from Star Wars in her crib at the tender age of two years old.
Before Garnette could read, she was playing songs by ear on the organ. At the age of 4, she was playing back a Spanish song that she often heard her mother play. Recognizing the extraordinary gift that Garnette possessed, able to pick up tunes by ear and play them back along with beats, her parents encouraged her to study music and develop her remarkable talent.
Background
Not even old enough to attend school, but gifted and talented enough to start formal piano lessons at the age of 4, Garnette began her musical journey and acquired other musical experiences that helped develop her talent. At 8 years old, she auditioned to join the Vancouver Bach Choir, went on tour at 11 and at 12 began accompanying the school choir and continued to sing under the instruction of Bruce Pullan, Vancouver Bach Choir director. The choir toured Montreal and later England when Garnette was 14.
Barely in her teens, 13 year old Garnette accompanied local church choirs in her hometown of Vancouver, B.C. Two years later, she was in demand to play at weddings.
Concentrating on popular music, Garnette studied with a vocal teacher who had a small recording studio. She and her sisters would sing songs which he assigned them. They called themselves The Lagrito Sisters and sang 3-part harmony, some of which Garnette arranged herself.
Garnette enrolled at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music when she was 13. At 15 she performed a piano concerto. The next year she and her instructor performed a piano concerto on two pianos. While at the Conservatory, she taught several students and played in some local bands. She began experimenting with composing as well as transcribing and improvising popular music.
Most of her younger years had been spent studying classical music and learning popular tunes that ranged from the Oldies to a variety of other popular songs. Deciding to further her education, Garnette enrolled herself in a 4 year full time music program. This was a jazz studies program which enabled her to complete her 2 year jazz diploma as well as her Bachelors degree in music, all in the course of 4 years. During this time, she taught several vocal and piano students. She played several local gigs which ranged from jazz to pop music, as well as weddings,clubs and several other venues.
Currently
Singer, songwriter, and piano player, Garnette , has now completed her album and is now performing and premoting it on Holland America. The albulm is dedicated to her manager, the late Ray Carroll, formerly of The Platters, who passed away in April of 2006 . He has taught and inspired me to continue my dream. He always used to say no matter what, the show must go on.
In her first album, it features her ability to write and perform popular styles with strong piano lines. In her second album, she showcases her personal style of romantic ballads, bossa novas, latino styles. This album emphasizes Garnette's creativity and fresh style.
