Gart Zeebregts

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

I need to challenge myself when writing; I do not believe in easy solutions or predictable scores and themes. A song has to surprise the listener. The only way to get satisfaction from my work is by impressing myself.

Biography

I am a native son of The Netherlands, born in a town called Son. I also lived in France, Belgium and the United States, where I worked as a freelance reporter, writer and AIDS prevention worker.
From a very early age I developed a passion for music and for the arts, literature and poetry. I started to write music at age 7, but my talents did not come to full bloom until 1982, when I put together an 11-piece school band.
After moving to Amsterdam, I formed a creative partnership with my brother Paul. As the "Burpeburg Brothers" we were involved in a large number of creative projects and wrote many songs together. Eventually we moved to San Francisco, California.
After moving back 5 years later, I returned to Amsterdam an older and wiser man and went back to his passions; painting and writing music.
Most of my songs are pop-ballads, but some are inspired by jazz, rock, and even Latin music.

Please keep in mind I am a songwriter, not a professional singer. My goal is to find people who want to record my work and perform with them.

Lyrics

Are You There?

Written By: Gart Zeebregts

Why can’t you be my supporter?
Why can’t you be my biggest fan?
Why is it so hard to say you love me?
When all I try to do is be a better man

Where do you go when I’m calling?
When I need you right here by my side
Is it so hard for you to be there?
Or is it that you haven’t even tried

Are you there at all?
And do you care at all?

They say it’s lonely at the top
But let me tell you
When you make that final drop
To the bottom of the pit
It is the loneliest place to be on your own
And all alone

CHORUS
Can you remember if I ever
Were not there when you’re in pain
Or did I ever leave you stranded in the cold?
And if I ever let you down
By now I think I paid the price
And will there ever be a time
When you will hold me

In your arms again
Just hold me
And be my lover

Are you there at all?
And do you care at all?

I don’t know where my life will lead me
Don’t know when my journey’s gonna end
Will you be there to walk beside me?
Or should I be looking for another friend?

Are you there at all?
And do you care at all?
Are you there at all?
And do you care?
Are you there?

I Can't Read

Written By: Gart Zeebregts

I can’t read the writing on the wall
Even though I am slowly growing older
Doesn’t mean I’m also getting better
I just can’t read at all

A broken promise
I keep forgetting
That you denied me
What I took for granted

Standing here with nothing left to say
Gazing through the cobwebs on the window
Hoping for a liberating answer
I don’t know you at all
Not at all

There was a time when I stood tall and proud, a time when I
Could state my case without a doubt and I
When I knew who I was and where I was going to
Now those illusions have left me small and broken
But it doesn’t faze me
And it doesn’t matter

Conviction is a luxury for those
Who waste their time just standing on the sidelines
Who theorize about Utopian guidelines
Who live by books and rules
Just books and rules

There as a time when I stood tall and proud a time when I
Could state my case without a doubt and I
I knew who I was and where I was going to
Now those illusions have left me small and broken
But it doesn’t faze me
It doesn’t matter

I can’t read the writing on the wall
Even though I am slowly growing older
Doesn’t mean I’m also getting better
I just can’t read at all
I can’t read

Stars

Written By: Gart Zeebregts

Stars
In the night
Shine so bright, shining all their love upon my lonely face
Brighten up the space of this lovely timeless place
After having been so lost, so long without your warm embrace

Hand
Hold my hand
Understand why my soul belongs inside your loving eyes
How my love defies nature laws and culture lies
Living peacefully within the boundaries of our last goodbyes

CHORUS
But the truth
Will set me free
Free to be One among the millions who we claim to be
Searching endlessly for the genuine you and me
Dreaming our illicit dreams of dignity

Dreams
Senseless dreams
How it seems that you live inside a land of make-believe
Trying to achieve the unachievable, believe
The unbelievable like children’s expectations Christmas Eve
(waiting to receive)
Time
Endless time
So unkind to the ones who spend their time to find a friend
Finding in the end that there is no time to spend
Just a journey to be traveled, filled with choices to defend
(broken hearts to mend)

CHORUS
But the truth
Will set us free
Free to be One among the millions who we aim to be
Searching endlessly for the genuine you and me
Dreaming our illicit dreams of honesty

Stars
In the night
Guiding light to the lonely lovers lost along the way
Waiting for the day that love will finally come to stay
Always hoping against hope that hope itself won’t fade away
