Bio

On March 12th, 2011, Garvy J is proud to present the debut single “War is Over...Again” / “Break you (C’est Dans La Tete)” from the forthcoming LP What If It All Works Out.  The single will be live on cdbaby.com, iTunes, and in many other places.  To celebrate this momentous occasion, Garvy J will perform live at the Magic Room in Brighton, MA.

Garvy J. was a founding member of critically acclaimed Boston band The Elevator Drops, who were nationally renown for their politically charged dadaist theatrics, as well as groundbreaking recordings and unpredictable live performances.  In the past year alone, Garvy J. has played on new albums by Devo and Del Marquis of The Scissor Sisters.  He has also worked with The Rentals, Matt Sharp of Weezer, and Adam Green of The Moldy Peaches - onstage as well as in the studio.

With his enchanting baritone voice, and accompanied by his signature 12 string guitar, he now steps out live with his own band, Garvy J. and the Secret Pockets of Hope and Resistance.  The lineup includes other well-known Boston players, such as Tony Savarino (Tony Savarino & the Satanic Lounge Syndicate, Black Fortress of Opium, Jenee Halstead, Simon Ritt), producer and founder of seminal Boston goth duo The Moors Scott Dakota, Mike Piehl and Tommy Tulip on bass.  In support of the single, the band has an active spring calendar booked playing shows and happenings around the USA and Europe.

As an electronic version of the classic 45 single, this two-song release features the title track “War is Over...Again,” which is a re-working of the original tune inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1972 billboard campaign, but with a post ironic spin.  The track features personnel such as Tracy Bonham (violin) and Greg Brown (of the band Cake, on guitar), and Russian activist/vocalist Anya Chechnyikya.  With a grant from MIT, New York award winning artist Peter Sand (The Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer) created an animated music video for the song, using ground breaking robotic technology and featuring intricate miniature sets, depicting the struggle between man, machine, and nature.  The B-side, “Break you (C’est Dans La Tete)” also features Greg Brown, of Cake, and French-Lebanese chanteuse Chantal Jobie and drummer Mick Flowers.

Also included on the bill are: USA debut and guest appearance by award winning artist/mc/vocalist Jim Morrissey, Sarah RabDAU & the Self-Employed Assassins, Goli, and Videodrome Discotheque to capping off the night with a dance party.

The Magic Room is a newer live music hotspot in the Boston area, which has gained a reputation for booking relevant national, regional, and local artists of various genres.  Reflected by its funky décor, cozy and mellow vibe, and kicking lighting and sound system, it is plainly apparent much love and care have gone into this unique space.  The end result is the perfect place for special shows and events, in an intimate and memorable setting.
