"Gary Allen's reviews"

Gary Allen is one of Nashville’s best rock n’ roll drummers and always has been. He rocks like all get out and is extraordinarily talented as well as a damn nice guy, who was a big part in putting Charlie Daniels on the international landscape.
-Carl P. Mayfield WSIX Program Director/Sirius Satellite Radio

Drummer, Gary Allen of the CDB, plays like he is dancing on the drums. He has an experimental energy with dead on target rhythms that is not your regular cookie cutter approach to percussion. -Rolling Stone

Hoss, man that was so tight it would hold water.
-Toy Caldwell Marshall Tucker Band

I want to shake your hand since I stole all your licks. Feel free to steal mine!
- Richie Hayward Little Feat

The lead drummer for The Charlie Daniels Band, Gary Allen, played like a V-8 engine in overdrive. Allen also nails down a backbeat like nobody’s business.
-Modern Drummer Allen swings ProMark 2S sticks like a Louisville Slugger! He is one of the best in the biz.
-Scott Perry, Billboard Magazine/The Tennessean

Bio

Born in Music City, Gary went from high school to touring the planet with The Charlie Daniels Band. FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN on Epic Records, was the band’s finest recorded moment, produced at Capricorn Records in Macon, Georgia by invitation from The Allman Brothers Band & crew. The singles, The South’s Going To Do It and Long Haired Country Boy were two of the popular tunes from that CD, heard on playlists daily around the globe. The Volunteer Jam became the benchmark for all star jams and is also available on DVD/CD.

Gary left the CDB, starting an all original Rock n’ Roll band called Push, later to be called The Jets, and in a later incarnation, Revolver. With an RCA EP under their belts, they moved to the West Coast and signed with Far Out Management in Hollywood. Nick Rather, the bass man, also played with JJ Cale, (Cocaine, After Midnight, Call Me The Breeze) Soon, Gary was touring with Cale and recorded the CD SHADES on Mercury Records and GRASSHOPPER on MCA. He was part of Cale’s first live track ever released on a studio CD, Wish I Had Me A Dollar. The latest Cale CD he appears on is STRUMMING ON THE PORCH and the JJ CALE THE ULTIMATE ANTHOLOGY.

Gary’s soundtrack work includes 2005 remakes of The Bad News Bears & The Dukes Of Hazard. The Coyote Ugly bar franchise features music from The CDB in all their dance routines, and is featured bumper music on Coast To Coast AM, the biggest late night radio talk show in history. Their version of The Orange Blossom Special is used internationally to teach western swing dance.

One of Gary’s recent collaborations is The Abbey Road Project, playing the Beatles LP in its entirety for Fab Four fans. Another in house project spotlights Gary, guitarist CJ Dubuisson, Taz Digregorio from The CDB and Nick Rather, currently with Gary Lewis and The Playboys. They have cut 4 original tracks in their own studio. He also is the host of Nashville’s only rock and roll musicians shindig, the bi-weekly Play It Again Jam. The jam is sponsored by Pat Adams of Tennessee Concerts, Tennessee’s most viewed concert events site. This summer Gary headlined a memorial concert for George McCorkle of The MTB for Down South Jukin.com and Southern Fried Magazine, a popular new webzine, with his band The Outfit.
