Gary Edmonds is a blues-based roots-rock musician who is most known for his electric guitar skills. Whether it be his blues trio (which Edmonds fronts on lead vocals and guitar), a straight ahead country group, or a full on rock band, it is impossible not to be blown away with his fiery and intense mastering of his six string.
Gary was born in Northwest Indiana where he lived until he was 13, then moved to Alabama. Many nights were spent jamming to all the greats on the family porch and at the age of 15, he started gigging in local bars and taverns. These years were when Edmonds learned how to be in and lead a band. Not only perfecting his guitar skills, he also began writing his own material, collaborating with other artists, and performing original music with bands, duos, and solo acoustic. It is also equally impressive to catch a Gary Edmonds solo blues acoustic performance. Many have stated that "it sounds like three people playing, not just one." Gary has worked as a session musician on many other recording projects and continues to be a regular performer on the Southeastern club and festival circuit. He has opened for and performed with various recording artists such as B.B. King and Buddy Guy, Bernard Allison, Walter Trout, Carey Bell, Eddie Kirkland, Willie King, Big Bo McGee and Little Whitt Wells, Caroline Shines (daughter of the late great Johnny Shines), Topper Price and the Upsetters, Reverend Horton Heat, Junior Brown, Willie Heath Neal, The Neville Brothers, Bobby Whitlock of Derek and the Dominos, and many other famed artists. Edmonds was featured recently on an Alabama Public TV special showcasing live Alabama blues artists.
Gary prides himself on his work with the Alabama Blues Project, an organization focused on teaching kids blues history and hands on learning with the basic blues instruments. Their advanced band has performed in Memphis and at several blues functions in the Southeast, which he is the main instructor of.
Gary can currently be found recording and touring with his blues trio, The Gary Edmonds Trio, playing solo acoustic, performing with his long time friend and songwriting partner Nic Jeffrey duo acoustic, and with their original roots-rock band Stoney Lonesome. Along with performing with his own projects, he plays as a side man lead guitarist in several other bands, playing covers and wowing audiences.
Edmonds would definitely be a great addition to your venue, festival, or concert. Whether you are looking for scorching lead guitar, great vocals, a five piece band playing the hits, or a laid back acoustic show, you can't go wrong with Gary Edmonds.
