Border Man

Written By: Gary Farrell

Words and music
GARY FARRELL

Caught in some kind of balancing act
On a trapeze high above the ground
The view from up here it will scare you
The moment you look down

I’m on the border, of your country
I see the way your people live
I’m on the border of my homeland
I can not find a way to forgive

If you keep your eye to the horizon
You’ll get a different view of things
With an eagle’s eye you’re realizing
That freedom makes your heart sing

I’m on the border, of your country
I see the way your people live
I’m on the border of my homeland
I can not find a way to forgive

Torn between your homeland and the iron grip
Your point of view stays firmly on your lips
Moments more and freedom’s wine you will sip
A candle for peace can soon be lit

I’m on the border, of your country
I see the way your people live
I’m on the border of my homeland
I can not find a way to forgive

And now I’m running from that border
I hate to draw a line that way
Life moves in circles, like changing seasons
A border man will always live this way

Prairie Rose

Written By: Gary Farrell

Words and music
Gary Farrell

Every house I see keeps reminding me of ours
The miles they just roll on and on for hours and hours
This old bus is heading north
Up Alberta way
With a heart full of song I hope it won't be long
I’ll meet a brand new day
Love tugs at my sleeve
The last thing I wanted was to leave

To the land of the big sky wild roses and hills
Wild horses pretty women and this cold November chill
I’m feeling about as empty
As these wheat fields before the snows
Like a frozen little prairie rose
Waiting for the spring we both know
Love tugs at my sleeve
The last thing I wanted was to leave

The last thing I wanted was good-bye
I look out at this empty prairie sky and I cry
Its funny how the things that we say
Are good intentions we just throw away

In the land of the big sky I’ll start over again
I’ll hitch up with a four piece band
I’ll turn and I’ll face the prairie wind
My ole heart is empty like these wheat fields before the snows
Like a frozen little prairie rose
Waiting for the spring I’ll just let go

Love tugs at my sleeve
The last thing I wanted was to leave
To the land of the big sky
In the land of the big sky I just want to fly
My little prairie rose good-bye

Love & Music

Written By: Gary Farrell

Words and Music
Gary Farrell

I love to play this old guitar and sing
I think about the smiles
And the joy that it brings
And It’s left me sometimes wondering
Where good love has been

Love & Music they make this world go round
Workin drives this pickin man
Right straight into the ground
Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind
A good sweat
But I’d rather play my guitar
You can bet

I’d rather sit & write a song
Than go out workin all day long
I can’t find one thing wrong with that
Playing this here guitar’s all I ask

I fell in love with a song long ago
First time I heard John Paul George & Ringo
I was force fed a little Mr.Merle and I loved it
But I just dig Mr.Chet.

I’d rather sit and pick a song
Than go out workin all day long
I can’t find one thing wrong with that
Playing this here guitar’s all I ask

I can pick away an entire afternoon
I’ll sit up all night pickin for the moon
I’ll spend my life in some old honky tonk
Playin this here guitar is all I want

I’d rather sit and pick a song
Than go out workin all day long
I can’t find one thing wrong with that
Playin my guitar’s all I ask
Yea playin this here guitar is where it’s at
Playin this here guitar that’s all I ask

Ancient Ruins

Written By: Gary Farrell

ANCIENT RUINS
I won't be taken hostage
Dragged down or made to feel I'm not alive
You can blame me till the earth stops turning
Yes what’s mine is mine

I treated you far better
Than I treated my own mind
Now I’m getting things together, I'm not blind
No what’s mine is mine

CHORUS
I wonder how you will remember
This Bitterness I’ve learned now to let go
And reminisce of forever
Are ancient ruins in my soul

Tragedy, crisis upon crisis
Life can deal them so relentlessly
Souls become imprisoned
Shackled by a past they will not free

I'm yearning to give back now
The treasures that were buried in the dark
Like a pirate you had plundered
The language in my heart

CHORUS

I see better days are calling
Though I have walked this road before
Now I'm ready to be taken
Love calls and I want more

CHORUS

Broken Family Tree

Written By: Gary Farrell

BROKEN FAMILY TREE

There’s a main branch missing on my family tree A few have decayed and died
Disappeared in history
My Irish blood pumps straight to my heart

Strip him of his name and he won’t know
What really happened not so long ago
His heritage and pride he just won’t need
And a family tree that bares no seed
Chorus Though they say they do I know they don’t
Though they say they will I know they won’t
Who I am it matters to no-one
I am an outlaw’s son

In the heat of the fight wrong words are said
A fuel of guilt and shame keep the fires fed Until the truth gets bent right out of shape
The family tree it trembles and it shakes

The mighty tree it will not die
Even though some branches fall it will survive
All I know is we can not deny
The family tree it weeps and it cries

Disregard what matters to the soul
Ancestral stories left untold
When the root of who you are cannot be reached
Your deepest rights they have been breached

Though they say they do I know they don’t
Though they say they will I know they won’t
Who I am it matters to some-one
I am an outlaw’s son

Big Heart

Written By: Gary Farrell

Big Heart

I got a heart that’s the size of a clear prairie sky
I’ll pull no punches I’ve got nothing to hide
What you see darling I am that inside
Just a man with a big heart

I know sometimes I can be real hard to take
My restlessness haunts me and I can’t seem to shake
Some of the past mistakes that I’ve made
Help me baby cause I want you

Chorus
I want you so badly it hurts me sometimes
Sometimes I just go out of my mind
Don’t you fret baby storms blow by fast
We can look back on this and have a good laugh

Hope the winds of change are always gonna blow
And the wrong turns I’ve taken will still take me home
I’ve been lost a time or two but somehow I have known
There’s a road taking me home to you
Chorus
My heart’s the size of a clear prairie sky
I’ll pull no punches I’ve got nothing to hide
What you see darling I am that inside
Just a man with a big heart
Just this little man I’ve got a big heart

Trusty Old Guitar

Written By: Gary Farrell

I remember I first saw you
Shinning in that store
Twenty years later you look
Like you've been through a world war
But you keep on sounding right
Ringing clear & true
This trusty old guitar's all I’ll need
To see me through

We've traveled lived in the wood
And written many a song
I took you every where
Even where we never belonged
When I'm gone I think I'll hand you down
And maybe through my family
The joy that you've given me
Will never cease to be

Refrain

Trusty old guitars never let you down
Here's living proof my friends
Its still kicking around
Its just an old flat-top not much to see
Its been looking a little bit used
From all the years Its been with me

Its been with me a long long time
This trusty old guitar
Very best friend of mine
My trusty old guitar
Never gonna let me down
