Bio

Singer-songwriter & producer Gary King’s soulful voice and classic songwriting are what you’d get if you threw Stevie Wonder’s, Sting’s , and yes, Vince Gill's songs together in a blender and pressed liquify: soul music with a hint of pop and rock and country, unified by a contemporary yet classic sound and a penchant for catchy melodies and thoughtful lyrics.

King’s music has appeared in Film & TV, including movies such as “All About Us” and “Prom Night,” (a No. 1 Weekend Box Office movie in 2008). His music can currently be heard on cable networks like Starz, VH1 Classic, Encore, DirectTV, FX, Chiller, and InDemand.

King wrote the title song for the 2007 movie “All About Us,” featuring a cast including Ruby Dee, Boris Kodjoe, and Ryan Michelle Bathe (along with a cameo by Morgan Freeman). A number of songs off his debut album “Songs from the Black Book” also appeared in the movie, directed by award-winning filmmaker Christine Swanson (Six Weeks, All About Us, Two Seasons, Woman, Thou Art Loosed).

King has worked as a session vocalist and member of the Andrae Crouch gospel choir. He appeared most recently as part of the choir on “We Are Golden,” a single off Universal Music artist Mika’s 2nd studio album (The Boy Who Knew too Much, 2009).

King also participated in Michael Jackson’s 2009 Memorial Concert, where the Andrae Crouch choir—led by the Grammy-winner and Choir Founder himself, Andrae Crouch—was joined onstage by artists like Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Jermaine Jackson, John Mayer, and Judith Hill (The Voice, Season 4), among others, who performed in tribute to the late pop superstar.

King has opened for Stevie Wonder and shared the stage with artists like Lina, Jon B., Fiji, Justin Young, Kevin Nash, Sugarbitch, Danielle Egnew, Bonafide, Nonosina, Tracey Amos, Sabrina Vargas, and Common Kings. He’s collaborated and worked as a songwriter and producer with artists like Tini Grey, Jerome Grey, Local Culture, Trey Smoov, Don L. Castor, Jazmin (America’s Got Talent, Season 3), and Rita Marie Valle.
