I play Trop Rock music. Trop Rock is a genre of popular music that incorporates elements and influences of rock and roll, reggae, country music, caribbean and zydeco, with themes and musical compositions inspired by islands that represent a way of life that is relaxing and exotic.

Biography

Gary began performing at the age of 6, often singing unaccompanied. He played with various rock bands in the 60's and 70's in Northern New Jersey and Queens, NY. Later in the 70's he ventured out on his own, mixing the folk music of his early youth with the rock playing at area colleges, including Fairfield University, William Paterson College, Wagner College. He also performed with Harry Chapin and Don McLean during that time. Gary took some time off from performing in public but has recently burst back onto the musical scene at the Jersey Shore each fall Gary heads down to Key West and plays various venues. Gary has also started writing recently composing some songs on his own as well as co-writing with a long lost friend from Arizona, Phil Corso, under the names of AKA and Baja-Dos Amigos Viejo mixing tropical and southwest flavors. His first CD, “Tropical Island Dreaming”, was released in July 2008. Gary’s versatility is apparent as he performs as a solo artist, a duo or with his band, The Jersey Coast Reef Band.

More recently Gary has performed with such notable musicians as Jim Morris, Doyle Grisham of the Coral Reefer Band, John Frinzi, Sunny Jim White and The Peter Mayer band.

Playing a style known as Trop Rock, a combination of Rock, Southern Rock, and Country music all with a Tropical feel, he covers numerous artists from the 50 through the present, with a summery sound.

Gary has recently been named a Regional Musician for the Margarita M.A.F.I.A., an organization promoting Trop Rock as a mainstream genre of music.
