You Take Your Chances

Written By: Gary Sandusky

Verse 1
Here he comes.
I've never seem him so downhearted,
his hat pulled low
to shade his eyes from the crowd.
They say it was the rodeo
that took his spirit from beneath him,
but I don't know.
Was it the bronco or the bride?

Chorus
He took his chances when he grabbed the rope
when he settled in the chute
and when he rode he tried to beat the clock
and hang on for better days.

Verse 2
Now here he comes.
His heels are dragging in the dust.
His face is lined with the years of losing out.

Chorus 2
You take your chances when you grab the rope
when you settle in the chute
and when you ride you better hold on
or you're gonna bite the dust.

Verse 3
Now here he comes.
His heels are dragging in the dust.
His face is lined with the years of losing out.

Ain't it Funny

Written By: Gary Sandusky

Verse 1
These old truck tires stop their whinnin'
As they roll from the edge of the black top
To that dirt road that runs on up the ridge.
And the dust starts foggin' and it fills up the cab
Like these feelings for you that I don't want to have.
And the truck bed starts to rattle from the
Washboards in the road
And the engine is complainin' from the grade and the load
Then down there in that valley tucked away in some trees
Is the house I built for you, when I was eager to please?

Chorus:
Ain't it funny how the years can take it from you?
How just livin' leaves you flat and feelin' stale.
And then before you know it, like a well runnin' dry,
You don't even have a cup full left to give.

Verse 2
There's the lilacs in the front yard, well they're bloomin' this year
And the smell of them cuts right through the dust.
Do you remember that winter when you thought that they would die?
Well they're back again and makin' quite a sight.

Verse 3
There it is now in the mirror just like time passing by
And the sight of it could move me to cry.
We were young, we were hopeful,
Had the world by the tail.
For the life of me, I can't tell what went wrong.

Simple Man

Written By: Gary Sandusky

Verse 1
Watch you through the open window
Walking down the street.
The way you move sweeps me off my feet.
Push down from the windowsill and walk across the room.
Then I dream that old dream.

Chorus
Could you love a simple man like me?
Not too many graces and I ain't got no degree.
But my heart is true and my love runs deep
And I'm in love with you.

Verse 2
We've known each other quite a while.
We pass in the hall.
You smile. We chat. That's all.
But today you laughed at my silly joke and you touched my arm.
Then I dream that old dream.
