Bio
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, (the 60's I think it was called), I got serious about music (or was it meeting girls?). Anyway, I played drums & sang in a series of garage bands with guys from my neighborhood. In reality, the southwest part of St. Louis city turned out a lot of great musicians. Many of whom are still giggin' today.
Even during the height of the British invasion my musical roots were, and remain, in R & B and the Motown sound. Until finding a home with the Yessir! Band I had been playing with a group originally called "Dixie". This was at the height of the Southern Rock craze. The band had a lot of local success & did a lot of concert work culminating in opening the first VP Fair under the Gateway Arch. It was us, the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Ozark Mt. Daredevils. We did subsequent shows with Michael Martin Murphy, Lacy J. Dalton and others.
Born and bred on the south side of St. Louis. Music's always been a part of my life. I started out as a drummer and still play a lot of Latin percussion with a large horn band (the Yessir! Band). I picked up the guitar later. I've always sung.
As I've mentioned, my musical influences are many. However, watching Springsteen perform is like sitting in a classroom. He's the ultimate performer. Love Arlo's humor, the irony and twists of Warren Zevon and many more. There's no shortage of artists to respect and admire.
Each song is different but usually the initial writing comes pretty quickly. A line or in some cases a good chunk of the lyrics, chords, melodies. After that, much of the time commitment is spent in the reworking. I did spend 26 years writing a song once. (That's not the kinda thing ya wanna do more than once). Putting in my home studio has really spawned a rush of creativity. It's great to be able to do something with an idea as soon as I get it.
