LIKE A MOTH TO THE FLAME, the 2008 EP release from Gary Smejkal, features three new original compositions written for the bass. In his explorative approach to the bass, Smejkal contrasts driving hard rock rhythms with unexpected modal interludes and fusionist stylings.
Nominated Best CD in the 2009 Wooster Music Awards, the title track placed 67th in the 2009 MTV VMA Best Breakout Band Awards. Called "Fluid, expansive and filled with flurries of bass notes" in Metronome Magazine.
Bootsy Collins wrote "Consider this an A for approval and C for the 'chops' which you do have."

Recently commissioned to do the theme song and soundtrack for the new cable TV show A LOCAL ANESTHETIC, Gary Smejkal is back into the studio to record his first full length CD titled PLAYING IN THE WHITE SPACE scheduled for release in 2010.
The full length CD will be preceded by the release of two CD singles in 2010, A LOCAL ANESTHETIC in March and LOVE IS A MIRAGE in June.
