Beautiful Still

Written By: Tom Appling

Gingerly I wander
To find your bed of bones
Long to hear your laughter
Out here on my own
Aching for your ashes
Driven to your dust
Phantom limbs remembered
As I lean in for your touch
A shiver passes through me
Sweet nothing fills my head
“I will always love you”
That’s what you always said
Others will forget you
One never will
I am haunted by your ghost
It’s beautiful still
You are beautiful still
Gingerly I wander
From your bed of bones
Long to hear your laughter
Out here on my own

Sunbath

Written By: Tom Appling

When you said "Just leave it be"
It pulled the cord and blinded me
You let a ray of light fall right in
For my sunbath to begin
Stretched out upon that block
Disagreeing with the clock
Whoops, an eternity rolled on by
And I’m happy enough to die
Ray of Light
I lay outright
In your Ray of Light
Before the basking time is done
I will blaze a trail to the sun
Got to find my way back to this spot
Where I’m content in all that I have got
That’s how to have rainy day fun
Hoping and praying for return of the sun
With the end of all time plaguing the mind,
Got to keep the devil on the run, run, run
Got to keep the devil on the run
Ray of Light
I lay outright
In your Ray of Light

Tedium & Glory

Written By: Tom Appling

Somewhere in the middle of tedium and glory
Lies a life that’s aching to get on with the story
Lies a life that’s tired of dreaming up big plans
Lies a life been building a castle with dry sand
Oooooh-la-la. Oooooh-la-la.
Somewhere in the middle of futility and fame
Lies a life protecting a feeble little flame
Lies a life collecting some fuel to feed that fire
Lies a life expecting to unleash its hearts desire
Oooooh-la-la. Oooooh-la-la.
Somewhere in the middle of tedium and glory
Lies a life that’s aching to get on with the story
Lies a life collecting fuel to feed that fire
Lies a life expecting to achieve its hearts desire
Oooooh-la-la. Oooooh-la-la.

Up In The Air

Written By: Tom Appling

Up in the air, but I don’t care
Up in the air, when things are there
They will all fall down
Bound to all fall down
Just to fly up
At every opportunity
They will fly up
To fall back down
Just to fly up
We know it for a certainty
Never ever settle down
They will fly up
To fall back down
Follow your own lead
Or fall on your knees
Ever in a circle, never to an end
Back to the beginning to start over again
Ever in a circle, chasing your tail
If there ain’t no way to catch it
How’re you ever gonna fail
There ain’t no way you can fail.

Hook & Eye

Written By: Tom Appling

Cornered in the open air
Locked up in the sky
‘Freedom’ ‘s just another word
That’s leaning on a lie
Lured by the unchangeable
A leopard’s constant spot
Coaxing an anxiety
To release its’ grip on thought
Gripping joine by a hook and eye
Refuses to let go
Of a lifeline
In a salt mine
That’s full of pepper (say it again)
Take a look at the crooked truth of the Hook & Eye
Restraining and maintaining a feigned alibi
Take a look at the crooked truth of the Hook & Eye
Saving but enslaving like a favorite lie
What’s your favorite lie?
Stumble prone and swerving
Taking steps to be some stranger
Double back upon the track
At the slightest sign of danger
Wavering at each crossroad
Fear and fantasy collide
Digging for change is a guarantee
When time won’t choose a side
But flipping coins into the sky
To choose which way to go
At each stop sign
In this lifetime
Leaves you a leper (rotting away)
Let it go— At the end of your rope
Let it go-- Holding onto hope
Let it go— Round the corner, what’s in store?
Let it go— One battle is not the war
It’s not the war, one battle is not the war.
Take a look at the crooked truth of the Hook & Eye
Restraining and maintaining a feigned alibi
Saving but enslaving like a favorite lie
Take a look at the crooked truth of the hook & eye
Gripping joins the hook and eye
Flipping coins into the sky
Gripping joins the hook and eye
Flipping coins into the sky
