Bio

"A Psalmist with Purpose"
Gavin Davis, born June 8, 1982 in Lynchburg, VA, is the son of Music Min. Calvin and Deloris Davis. Gavin has been blessed with a beautiful wife, Talya. Together they have a precious daughter, Kyrah. He currently resides in Lynchburg where he and his family are members of Prayer of Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C. There, he is minister under his pastor, Elder Jonathan G Willis.

Like most other Christian artists, Gavin was raised in church. His parents are members at Ellis Creek Baptist Church in Nathalie,VA; this was Gavin's home church as well. Music was a major passion in his life. Gavin's father would urge him and his sister April to sing by making them stand in the middle of the livingroom. Their mother would even put them on the spot at church, whispering her request for them to sing for a dollar. Gavin stated that "daddy would get upset if we didn't sing to our fullest potential and that was when we were just around the house" This is very similar to the Jackson family except for the beatings. Sometimes, he would be awakened to sing for his parents' guests and then told to go back to bed.

Gavin also noted that, "My church didn't have a youth choir, so I sang with another church's Sunbeam choir up the street that was called Evergreen Baptist Church." He then joined a group called YFC, Youth For Christ; it was a local group with friends Gavin and his sister went to school with. It was there that Gavin was introduced to gospel contemporary music, singing early hits from Kirk Franklin, John P Kee, Hezekiah Walker, and Fred Hammond. Groups that he never heard of became some of his favorites.

While in high school at William Campbell in Naruna, VA., Gavin joined the concert, jazz, and marching bands. His performance instruments included trumpet, euphonium, and various percussion instruments; he was the drumline captain junior and senior year. Gavin acquired many skills such as reading music, applying theory, and appreciating various genres of music.

While on campus at Liberty University, Lynchburg, VA., Gavin continued his drumline career in the LU Marching Band. While enjoying life at Liberty, Gavin discovered another gift that God had blessed him with. "It was me, Jodi Walton, WIlliam Irving, and Jonathan Jordan.....we called ourselves BLESSED." God allowed them to collaborate their efforts in songwriting and ministering to their peers and high school students. It was then, that God surfaced Gavin's gift to write songs and come up with melodies for His glory. "No matter how hard I tried, God never allowed me to write a song without Him in mind, at least any good songs...." He then joined the Fellowship Gospel Choir and CHOSEN, a ministry team under scholarship for minority recruitment. Gavin recorded, co-produced, and helped arrange three albums with CHOSEN and he also recorded one album with the gospel choir. Gavin, within recent years, was able to meet some nationally recognized artists and producers while traveling with CHOSEN. He has worked with many other local artists from recording and performing background vocal, to writing and producing songs and music.

Gavin graduated summer of '07 with a Bachelors Degree in Business Marketing. He plans to continue his education by acquiring his MBA as well.

"Growing up watching my family's group made me appreciate all music today, especially quartet..." Gavin's grandfather, Richard Mckinley Davis and four of his great uncles created a quartet group in the early 50's called The Fantastic Heavenly Five. This was one of the first quartets in Halifax County. Almost fifty years and three generations later, Gavin joined the group at age 16. It was there, that he further developed his ear for harmony and melody. With The Fantastic Heavenly Five, Gavin was able to see and to share stages with major recording artists like The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Vickie Winans, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, Lee Williams, Paul Porter, George Dean, Harvey Watkins and the Canton Spirituals, Shirley Ceaser, Luther Barnes, Shirley Murdock, F C Barnes, Dorothy Norwood, Darrell McFadden, The Williams Brothers, Niyoki, The Legendary Soul Stirrers, Sounds of Blackness, Anne Nesby, and many other artists.

For three years, Gavin Davis has been the choir director at Lovely Zion Baptist Church in Bedford, VA. He is currently with The Fantastic Heavenly Five and Gavin is working in his church as one of the praise & worship leaders and directors. He is also a vocalist with UNITY, a group of elite singers out of POFT C.O.G.I.C.

Since the July 8th ALBUM RELEASE "I'LL BE YOUR MINISTER", Gavin has been busy ministering internationally, carrying the Word Of God through song; People are being blessed by his ministry and God continues to be glorified in the US and all over the world.
