Bio

There are few artists in the Austin Hip-Hop scene that have the positive energy, originality, marketable sound, and open mind to really boost hip-hop’s representation in the live music capital of the nation. If you simply ask around, G Clef is definitely a strong candidate to do so. This MC, singer, and producer has a lot to offer the world and has been often referenced to as “the best in the game” by countless fans as well as fellow artists alike. Ask the 10 time Austin Music Awards best Hip Hop award winners MC Overlord and other artists of high caliber that G Clef has worked with and you’ll hear the same echo, “This kid is the next big thing.”
Move The World. This is the mission of the movement G Clef has started in the I-35 corridor. Clef emerged on the hip hop scene at Texas State University in San Marcos in ’07 right between his hometown of Austin, Texas and his second home, San Antonio. He was a saxophonist majoring in music with a wide musical background which really made producing those first beats go rather smoothly. The lyricism came naturally, resonating Clef’s influences such as Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Ludacris, Kanye, and Jay-Z, mixed with a delivery of unknown origin too large for words. The young MC quickly linked up with the Hip Hop Congress at Texas State, a diverse community service based organization that strives to unite cultures through the art of hip hop by encouraging creativity, expression, and social activism. With the Hip Hop Congress Clef appeared at dozens of elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, and conventions performing poetry and songs relating to overcoming odds, getting educated, and staying out of gangs, violent activities, and substance abuse. He performed in and helped coordinate events such as Congress Kidz, The Hip Hop Trio Student Exchange (workshops for high school students at risk of not graduating and attending college), and Texas State’s PAWS Preview Diversity Presentation that all incoming freshman are required to attend during their orientation. Clef produced and was featured on multiple songs on both A Texas Statement Volume One and Two, promotional albums for the university produced by artists in HHC at Texas State’s Fire Station Studios. Those albums currently have over 15,000 fully pressed copies in circulation.
G Clef released his first fully pressed product in 2009 with his album of a mixtape, The Declaration. 200 physical copies and countless downloads have been distributed between San Marcos and Austin. He was also on a nationally distributed mixtape entitled Coast 2 Coast vol. 72 hosted by Fat Joe due to a track of his “911” being among the top 5 of over 10000 entries. Clef’s most recent release hit Itunes in May of 2010 entitled Independent’s Day. Since 2010 G Clef has performed and captivated crowds at venues in the I-35 corridor such as the Historic Victory Grill (Austin), Flamingo Cantina (Austin), Karma Lounge (Austin), Ruta Maya (Austin), Bar 141 formerly Lucy’s on the Square (San Marcos), Triple Crown (San Marcos), Dillingers (San Marcos), Tantra Coffee House (San Marcos), The White Rabbit (San Antonio), and the Reggae Bar (San Antonio). He has even won a couple of Poetry Slams at Texas State University against some of the most talented poets in the area for a 200 dollar cash prize.
Now the ball is rolling. G Clef recently founded Brain Ninjazz Edutainment, a strong independent label (now registered in The Texas Music Office’s Business Referral Network) consisting of a handful of artists, producers, videographers, photographers, and graphic designers. He is currently working on the release of his next album The Looney Bin, and is about to embark on a game changing album project with a fresh market plan in Austin entitled +Newtrons-. Also Clef just got song placement with Coca Cola for their global market campaign and new diversity movement with his song entitled “Evolution”. The future is looking quite bright, and although few are bold enough to take that leap of faith to greatness, G Clef has definitely shown that no matter who you are or what you started out with, positive energy will get you where you’re destined to go.
