Biography

GE5 is a power pop group from Tacoma, Washington. The band originally was a cover band, but after a personnel change they began to write their own songs, intermixing them with the Beatles, REM, and Morrissey songs they played every night. The realization that they had a lot of great songs that needed to be heard gave them the desire to record their music, and the band's Debut disc "Superficial World" was released in 2008.
The members of the band have each had some successes of their own in the past, but feel that this group has a dynamic sound that is unique and yet familiar. With many songs featuring two-,three-, and four-part harmony lead vocals, as well as jangly electric 12 string guitars, they have been compared to bands as diverse as the Byrds, REM, the Hooters, the Smithereens, and the Beatles --- all huge compliments to the band, as these have been influences in their songwriting and their sound.
The band has continued to write, and are looking to incorporate some of the new songs into their performances, and are excited about the buzz that is starting about their new release and their sound. They are currently recording the follow-up, and this is a band that can't wait to get out and share their music with more and more people!

My Impression

Written By: Jon Ecklund and Tim Monaghan

My impression of the day you went away
The situation is one I still regret today

But my postion was filled with love and of faith
But your reaction was filled with hurt and with hate

All of the days and every way I tried my best for you
How could you lie to me that way

Let no decision ever keep you from your home
But your final answer has left you cold and all alone

Mistakes don’t matter, if you both make amends
But the pain don’t flatter. You know it only loses friends

All of the days and every way I tried my best for you
How could you lie to me that way

You keep making rules that I can’t seem to follow
You didn’t realize that you’d be all alone

That’s my impression of the day you went away
That’s my impression of the day you went away
That’s my impression
That’s my impression
That’s my impression

Please don't ask

Written By: Tim Monaghan

Please don't ask me how I feel
Knowing you are with somebody else
I just can't take it
I lost alone here with my fears
And seeing you today confuses me
I just can't shake it

If love's a game to you
Then I don't wanna play
I can't deny the way I feel
My cards are on the table
And I walk away
Maybe someday this heart will heal

Can I ask you why you're here?
When you walked out
All you said to me was you're unhappy
And then today I find you here
You act like nothing changed
And then you say that you still love me

If love's a game to you
Then I don't wanna play
I can't deny the way I feel
My cards are on the table
And I walk away
Maybe someday this heart will heal
But oh, the scars are deep

There's just one thing before you go
I'm not sure if you knew
How much it hurt me when you left me
And though the scars are deep I know
I'm stronger than I used to be
And now I just won't take it

Superficial World

Written By: Glen Eagleson

Door bell rings, can it be you
With an alibi, or an attitude
It’s 4 AM, or is it afternoon
If you feel the wrath, you know I feel it too

Your after hour bar room junkies
Flipping bottle caps at yuppies
Driving by with no respect
For the ill fated derelicts

You can have your superficial world
Baby let me get used to mine
wanna bring you down from your superficial highs
You can have your superficial world
Baby let me get used to mine
Gonna shoot you down from your superficial skies

A searching soul, well you’re a splurging fool
Get down to earth; what do I have to do
It’s I lost, If love you lack
If I give it to you, but will I get it back

I have to lie, I have to fight
To see your face in the broad daylight
Nobody hears you said
It’s just another night of the living dead

You're wearing blinders, your ears are ringing
you can't smell the flowers or hear the birds singing
see those trees --- are they too real
for the way you think and the way you feel?

You can have your superficial world
Baby let me get used to mine
wanna bring you down from your superficial highs
You can have your superficial world
Baby let me get used to mine
Gonna shoot you down from your superficial skies

You may be right

Written By: Jon Ecklund

You may be right
You may be right
But I don’t want to face the facts of the day
Still I don’t mind
No, I don’t mind
I’ve got so many things I wanna say

I never meant for them to find out
Still I never let that get in the way
But if I had to tolerate another day
Then they might as well as found out anyway

Another time
Another time
I might become the man I wanna be
So don’t waste my time
No don’t waste my time
I’ve got so many things I wanna see

The harder you fall

Written By: Glen Eagleson

They said some crazy things,
You know that they’re untrue
That tabloid TV trash is always hard on you
The Sun, Star, and Weekly World
Are always good for laughs
They’ll always find that skeleton
Hiding in your past

You try to put the Hammer down
What they say is held against you
The only sure thing you can call
Is that the louder you are
The harder you fall

The odds are against you
and still they say you’re wrong
it’s really no one elses
business but your own
but Someone’s out to get you
You know they’ll say you lied
You should have swallowed your tongue
After you swallowed your pride

You try to put the Hammer down
What they say is held against you
The only sure thing you can call
Is that the louder you are
The harder you fall

Tell Me

Written By: Jon Ecklund

All I’ve seen of you I’ve
Seen from across the room
All I’ve Felt of you I’ve
Smelled in your perfume

So tell me, something about you
Tell me, what I should do
‘Cause I’ve never been this close to
Anyone like you
So tell me, something about you

So now here we are I’m
Trying to pick your brain
Don’t try telling me no
You know it’s not the same

So tell me, something about you
Tell me, what I should do
‘Cause I’ve never been this close to
Anyone like you
So tell me, something about you

I will always be with you

Written By: Scott McPherson

Here by the phone is where you’ll find me when you need me
I’ll be that somebody to you
Anyone that you want me to

Somewhere in your mind I’ll be the gold you never find
The mountain you never climb
I’ll be the one who gives, but never takes

I will always I will always be with you
Like a ghost, like ghost in your memory
I’ll keep the fire burning, deep inside of you
I will always be with you

Under the sun I’ll be the summer in your kingdom
The sand you bury your feet in
The one who covers up, and keeps you warm

We’ve just begun to give each other what’s inside
The blueprints in our mind
Of the dreams we’re building, and soon we’ll be living in

I will always I will always be with you
Like a ghost, like ghost in your memory
I’ll keep the fire burning, deep inside of you
I will always be with you

Fairy Tales

Written By: Tim Monaghan

Round and round and round this goes
And every time always explodes
I don’t know what to do
I swear this is the truth

The man I love the man I married
Seems so nice, he acts so caring
But all that is a lie
It makes me want to cry

I know that I’m not s’posed to talk about this
And I don’t know if I can talk about this

I remember on my wedding day
The words “love, honor, and obey’
and now that love is dead
Is wasn’t like they said

It seems the memory of my past
Is bruises hid beneath dark glasses
My colors still run true
Red, and black, and blue
He told me I’m not s’posed to talk about this
And I’m not sure that I can talk about this

When the one you love brings pain
And all of love you know has changed
I want to know if other fairy tales all end up like this
And when I close my eyes at night
I need to know that I am right
In knowing I don’t have to take this

And now whenever he comes home
I’m scared to leave the kids alone
I don’t know what he’ll do
Red and black and blue
He warned me I should never talk about this
But now I know I’ve got to talk about this

When the one you love brings pain
And all of love you know has changed
I want to know if other fairy tales all end up like this
And when I close my eyes at night
I need to know that I am right
In knowing I don’t have to take this
I don’t know how long I can take this
I just know I don’t want to take this

Isn't it strange?

Written By: Jon Ecklund

Isn’t It Strange
Isn’t It Strange
She said I am the one to blame
It’s all the same
It’s such a shame
She thought my love was a game

What she don’t know is how I feel
How can I tell her it was real?
It’s really strange
It’s really strange

It’s not what she said
That was so bad
It’s just that she seemed so glad
It’s in her head
The feelings are dead
“I am leaving” is all that she said

Talk Talk

Written By: Tim Monaghan

I’m not saying anything like “I love you”
‘cause I know you’re not that kind
It’d be so easy to tell you how I want you
If the words weren’t hard to find

Every time I try to speak
(what’s going on inside your head?)
The words, I find it hard to keep to myself
Tell nobody else
To tell you the truth I’m so scared of myself
The only thing that I’m sure about is you

Talk talk
I just want to talk to you
Make the words come out right
Talk talk
I really want to be with you
‘til we must say goodbye

It’d be so easy every time that I see you
To tell you just what’s on my mind
To tell you how much I am longing to touch you
So much I’ve almost lost my mind

Every time I try to speak
(what’s going on inside your head?)
The words, I find it hard to keep to myself
Tell nobody else
To tell you the truth I’m so scared of myself
Keep to myself, keep my love on the shelf
To you the truth I’m not sure of myself
The only thing that I’m sure about is you

Discography

Superficial World --- CD released Feb 1, 2008
Promotion has really just begun, and we have some small indie streaming stations (such as tuneinseattle.com) playing different cuts from the disc, as well as featuring the music on other independent music sites. It is available on Itunes and Amazon also.
The release features 14 original songs from the band, and was recorded at Pacific Studios, Tacoma, Washington.

Set List

Dependent on time, we have a set list that is flexible, but we have played as few as 7 and as many as 17 songs in a set, with times from 20 minutes to 1 hr 20 minutes. Our sets are normally all our own original music, but we have a repetoire of covers songs by the many artists like the Beatles, Crowded House, Morrisey, Neil Young, U2, and The Foo Fighters that we can also play for our shows. We have headlined and opened, depending on the circumstances, and also have enough of a songlist to play an entire evenings worth of music.
