"American Idol (season 5)"

Male semi-finalists
Gedeon Luke McKinney (born October 1, 1988) was from Memphis, Tennessee. He intended to audition in Memphis, but the auditions there were canceled due to the city's role in relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina. He raised funds to travel to the Chicago auditions by putting on a benefit concert. His elimination was a surprise to many, including Simon Cowell, who had criticized him previously. McKinney's father, Tony McKinney, also a performing artist, died in December 2005 before the show aired.

Gedeon Luke & The People

Hailing from the streets of Memphis, soul music flows through Gedeon Luke’s veins in rainbow colored hues. Weaned on the gospel infused sounds of Sly Stone, Curtis Mayfield and Al Green and inspired by the rock ‘n roll passion of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Gedeon is here to crash through the boundaries of music and society, to bring Love, Peace and Soul to the world.

Fighting through childhood poverty, rejecting the gang violence and drug abuse that surrounded him, Gedeon looked to music, family and faith as his beacon. Refusing to be hardened by the mean streets, Gedeon brings pure joy and passion to his music and his life. He’s raw. He’s real. He follows no trends. He is Love, Peace and Soul.

“Live Free and Love” brings Gedeon’s first full-length collection of music to the world, featuring his band, “The People”. It’s a collage of 11 songs reflecting the unbridled passion of a modern-day preacher, preaching the gospel of love. “The Healing”, the debut single from the record, is a hopeful and anthemic call for peace. Cynicism and snobbery should be left at the door—get ready to open your heart before you press play, because the “music will take you there.”

“Live Free and Love” was cut raw and live, a brotherhood of musicians working their magic without drum loops or click tracks. Featuring the contributions of modern- day masters Jack Daly (Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone & Phillip Phillips), James Poyser (The Roots), Daniel Sadownick (Maxwell, Angie Stone) and George Laks (Lenny Kravitz, Gavin DeGraw) and production by Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker) and Jack Daley.
