Bio
Ronn and Liza have been playing music together since 1996. Over the years they have played many kinds of music, but have always returned to their roots - folk music. Gemini played their first official gig at the Deep South Festival in New Brunswick, NJ in 2000. They quickly built up a library of traditional folk songs. Since then they have expanded their repertoire to include original and more contemporary compositions.
Ronn's first folk influences emerged from the NYC 60s folk scene, especially the Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, and Bob Dylan. Through these artists he discovered Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Leadbelly, and most importantly, The Weavers. Ronn has also always been a huge fan of Rock and Roll. He has found inspiration in every generation of Rock and Roll, but no one has affected his playing as much as Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. It was Jerry that led Ronn to appreciate Bluegrass music and pick up a banjo.
Liza added the Celtic influence to the mix, having grown up listening to The Chieftains, The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, and The Irish Rovers. She also brings a little country twang, having learned to harmonise by listening to The Judds. Liza leans heavily upon her classical training to add melodies to Ronn's blues based guitar.
Liza has also driven Gemini's goal of preserving the traditions they are a part of (and even some they are not!). Because of their diverse influences, Gemini's music oft sounds like it is taking a train across the Americas, frequently sidetracking to Ireland and other parts of Europe.
