"Gemini Club At The Metro"

"Romance has love at first sight and music has love at first sound; that uncommon moment stamped in time when you first listen to a new band and know you want to hear it again before the song is even over. This was my experience with Gemini Club, who owned The Metro stage with the presence of a seasoned band and the promise of a name on the rise." - Lost In Concert

"Gemini Club 'Ghost' Review"

"This is some of the finest indie dance music you can find at the moment – we stand by our assertion that Gemini Club are very similar to Manchester’s own Delphic in marrying dancefloor tempos and good old-fashioned instrument play to amazing effect. We’ve no doubt they’ll be just as big." - Harder Blogger Faster

"Gemini Club Impresses At The Metro"

"From the get-go, Gemini Club's sound was tight and lush, filling out each crevice of Metro's wide, elevated space. Lead singer Tom Gavin sounded particularly on-point with a range of vocals that surpassed any other show we'd seen him perform. Chalk it up to artistic progression or shear excitement for the show; whatever it was, it elevated Gemini Club to a level of cohesiveness we were unsure they'd be able to meet... It's clear here that Gemini Club are trying to channel Cut Copy, LCD Soundsystem and the like, and while those aspirations may be lofty, we give them credit for giving it a damn good shot. If they keep giving performances like this, they're well on their way." - The Chicagoist

"10 Electronic Music Acts to Catch at SXSW"

"Although Gemini Club haven't blown up on the live music circuit as much as I think they will soon, their name has been one that I've spotted all over the place -- and that's really quite a feat for an unsigned trio who released their debut EP, Future Tidings, in August of 2009.Their synth-heavy, dance-meets-rock sound isn't anything revolutionary, but it's a sound that is hard not to like. The Chicago trio has already shared the stage with some of my favorites, including Juan Maclean and Hercules & Love Affair, and word on the street is that their live show, including vocals and instruments too, is one worth checking out." - Huffington Post

"Chi Tunes: Gemini Club"

By Michael Schmitt
For RedEye

Calling itself a "rock band from the future," dance-rock outfit Gemini Club says it reflects the times.

"Everybody's lives have been invaded by computers," the band's electronic mastermind, Daniel Brunelle, told RedEye, "and a rock band's should be, too."

The classically-trained Brunelle, singer/songwriter Tom Gavin and DJ Gordon Bramli mash up all their influences--and sometimes feed their songs into a computer--to create Gemini Club's dynamic mixture of straight-ahead rock and dance floor electronica.

Members, who just released a new EP, "Future Tidings," talked with RedEye recently about their sound, influences and experiences.

What's a live show from Gemini Club like?
Gavin: There's a huge human element involved in the show, what with live vocal sampling and all. There's a lot of things that happen only once during a show that may never happen again, just because of a certain moment. Our set is, start to finish, no breaks. Absolutely everything that you're hearing is created live. There's no playback tracks, every drum beat is queued, every bass line is queued or played, and every vocal is sung, so it's a very live version of electronic music.

How did the group form?
Gavin: Dan and I had been making music together for a while, since we met in 2003 at the University Center. My singer/songwriter attitude really kind of mesh well with Dan's electronic prowess.

What's the craziest thing that's happened to the band thus far?
Gavin: At our very first show, which was a house party at this multi-million dollar studio ... Tom gets up on top of this table [to perform] and some girl hopped up there with him and starts MTV rap-video grinding up on him.

What's one completely random thing about the band?
Gavin: Dan and I met in juvenile hall. No, actually that's not true.
Brunelle : Tom and I are both huge news dorks. We're crazy politics junkies. All of our band fights are about politics. We don't argue about music, we only argue about politics.

How would you describe your sound?
Brunelle: Our band is really three distinct personalities. There's Tom, who's really coming at it from a traditional singer/songwriter point of view. Then there's me, who's kind of got a foot in both electronic music and ... with a classically-trained point of view. Then we have Gordon, who we perform with, who from Day One always been a DJ. It's really kind of an interesting learning experience for all of us to combine these three completely different histories and approaches into one sound. I think somehow it all fits together. - RedEye Chicago (Tribune)

"Gemini Club - Mary's Day"

Last month I blogged about Gemini Club. I talked about how good they obviously are and how they look like amazing band to catch live. I also posted a track called 'Show Me A Showdown', it is a very good track.

I like this band. I hope you can tell. So I'm going to hype them a bit more... so I am posting another track from them.. :-)

This track is called 'Mary's Day' it's a bit different from the last track I posted. This is a little bit more subdued. It's a sophisticated mixture of catchy synth and guitars. It's quite soft but not without having some dancefloor sensibilities. It's slightly unbelievable they are currently unsigned, but you can imagine this not being the case for much longer. Check it out.

The band have been booked to play Schubas' Tomorrow Never Knows Festival, if you are going get some videos for us ;-). Check out their myspace for other dates. Also, keep an eye open for remixes by the band, they've got a few coming and I bet they will be pretty sweet. - Too Many Sebastians

"People We Hope Get a Little More Attention in 2010..."

Tuesday, December 29

We were going to do one of those 'Big in 2010' lists, but instead we've gone with something a little bit different. So here are some incredibly talented artists who we wish well to in 2010. This is the last 'list' of the year from us. Service resumes as normal Jan 2nd!

Gemini Club
2010 should see Gemini Club and their track 'Ghost' make a proper appearance to the world. It's a massive track which should get them some nice attention. They have also been busy making remixes for some people, which should be very interesting. Keep an eye on these guys. - Too Many Sebastians

"Gemini Club: "Show Me A Showdown""

http://www.myspace.com/geminiclub
From their bio: "starting with a traditional writing and recording process gemini club completes a song and then asks the computer to destroy it, chopping, looping, and rearranging at its own descretion. with these cuts the members return to the ruble of their material and rebuild it and so create a sound no traditional rock band could ever achieve. this music is science fiction, guided as much by technology as the will of the bands members."

Hmmm so maybe this is a new kind of techno? I dunno but I think it is an interesting concept and it is a decent song. Always gotta be expanding those horizons...

"MOAV Top 20 of 2009"

I love making lists so there was obviously no way I was going to be able to resist doing one of these. A top songs of the year compilation certainly ain’t as easy to organize as originally thought. As Louis put it, making year-end lists requires a memory. Some of these songs may very well have come out in 2008.. 2007.. 1995. The important thing is that they helped shape the Members Only AV blog, our parties, and Chicago’s nightlife scene in 2009.. according to me. Enjoy. :)

(Order of importance determined by iTunes shuffle. Thanks for your help, Apple!)

1. La Roux – Bulletproof

2. MSTRKRFT feat. John Legend – Heartbreaker (Wolfgang Gartner Remix)

3. Bloody Beetroots feat. Steve Aoki – WARP 1.9

4. Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)

5. Tigercity – Fake Gold (Only Children Remix)

6. Miike Snow – Animal (Treasure Fingers Remix)

7. Classixx feat. Jeppe – I’ll Get You

8. Chromeo – Night By Night

9. Moneypenny – Say No

10. Hey Champ – Cold Dust Girl (Yello Fever Re-fix)

11. Dragonette – Fixin to Thrill (Villains Remix)

12. Kid Sister – Control (LA Riots Remix)

13. Bloody Beetroots feat. The Cool Kids – Awesome

14. Gemini Club – Show Me a Showdown

15. Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)

"Hello Gemini Club!"

Gemini Club is a three-piece electro-punk band from Chicago, IL. The band has only been playing live since July 10 of this year, but have already shared stages with the likes of Database and French Horn Rebellion, with shows coming up with 2020 Soundsystem and Tigercity. The band is composed of Tom Gavin (vocals, synth, resampler), Daniel Brunelle (Bass/Guitar, synth, resampler), and Gordon Bramli (DJ, Mix, clip triggers, resampler).

Influences include the likes of Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Justice, The Strokes, Michael Jackson, and Crystal Castles, to name a few. To put it simply, the main desire of Gemini Club is to become a post-rock band, rock band.

They came to the attention of TMS via a very friendly email and a youtube link. The video in question knocked me out, it's a live performace of a track called 'Ghost'. It's bloody brilliant, lazy comparison coming up, but it's like Holy Ghost and Justice just had a child together. I think it has the potential to be huge... disagree if you must... :-p

We have a track from their forthcoming E.P to share with you, it's called 'Show Me A Showdown'. I haven't heard anything as energetic as this from a 'whatever you call it Electro/Indie' band since the Damn Arms 'Patterns EP' which means it's very energetic indeed. Hopefully you'll love. Add them on the myspace , hype machine it and spread the word if you do. - Too Many Sebastians

"Chicago Originals: Gemini Club"

The days of the simple guitar/bass/drums band paradigm are dead. The robots are taking over. Punk has evolved from underproduction to overproduction, where every song is highly-altered, mixed and remixed. These new wave rebels come enhanced with laptops and synthesizers; a slew of buttons, switches, and knobs to control and manipulate sound. At the head of this movement in Chicago we find Gemini Club, a three-piece band who embrace technology to cut and chop their traditional recordings into something wholly different and unique. My introduction to the band came earlier this month, where their bright neon light show and infectious sound erupted from a corner of Sonotheque demanding my attention. And I wasn’t the only one to like what they heard–by the end of their set, Gemini Club had everyone out of their seats and on the dance floor. Self-proclaimed “science fiction music”, GC use their members as human samples allowing digital recordings and live performance to blend together so seamlessly it’s hard to tell where man ends and machine begins. “Everybody’s lives have been invaded by computers,” Daniel Brunelle, the band’s jack-of-all-trades on bass-synth-guitar, declared in Red Eye, “and a rock band’s should be, too.” DJ Gordon Bramli and Tom Gavin providing the vocals round out the trio of musicians who approach dance music like a science experiment. It’s aaalive! - Members Only AV Blog

Their unique live shows have been tearing up the scene for the last two years. Far from the conventional live performance, Gemini Club have a specially designed rig that allows for on-the-fly remixing of their own songs meaning each Gemini Club show is different from the last. This has resulted in them being asked to the support the likes of Chromeo, A-Trak, Two Door Cinema Club, Who-Made-Who, Dj Falcon, Flosstradamus, and Chateau Marmont.

Their first single, Ghost “Ghost” came out hot in the blogosphere, which has resulted in remixes from Hey Champ, Barretso, Golden Bug and Only Children. The track has also been picked up for air play from BBC Radio 1’s tastemaker show “In New DJs We Trust.”

From the mid-west to the Orient, Gemini Club’s own remix chops are in demand online and across the globe. Their remix for Australian band The Vanish went straight into the top ten of Hype Machine’s charts. The band’s spin on “Cold Dust Girl” entered the same top ten charts on five different occasions within a month - and their remix for Shinichi Osawa has been a mainstay on the iTunes dance charts in Japan. Most recently, the gents of GC’s remix of Chilly Gonzales premiered on the RCRD LBL blog as the most downloaded track of the week.

As a talent on the rise, they have been hard at work on an EP set for 2012 that is to be sure to keep people's feet moving on dance floors everywhere well through the rest of the year.
