GENERO

BandAlternativeAcoustic

Take two outspoken, immensely talented musicians who have traveled the world , bring them to Canada, and the spontaneous combustion is pure Montreal. This duo throws caution to the wind combining ethnic-acoustic-groove, edge and sensitivity, intimate, intense vocals & jaw dropping live performance

Biography

This singer-songwriter-instrumentalist duo has banded together bringing a wealth of experience to their growing number of Montreal and Canadian grassroots fans. Letting it all loose in their new creation: GENERO (which incidentally means "To Create" in latin...) Talia & Samia, wrote, arranged, recorded and mastered their first album within a few intense, sleepless weeks in the summer of 2006, releasing their first album, Overture to critical acclaim.

Now with another album in the works, Genero has explored and written new material flooded with ethno-acoustic, groove oriented, outspoken, edgy and senstivite songwriting backed with intense, intimate vocals & superb live performances. These two talented young women simply bring it all together with haunting vocal harmonies, world grooves, thought provoking lyrics and outstanding instrumental performances.

GENERO combines their experimental sound and world grooves with the traditions of female singer-songwriters like Bjork, Feist, Sarah McLaughlan, Tori Amos and inspired by the trail-blazing, original female singer/songwriter/instrumentalist: Joni Mitchell. They are silent about nothing - writing about everything from unrequited love to the burning environment: "The dollars sign's godly, and the godly unworthy.... ". Genero's first CD "Overture" showcases their intense poetic songwriting with skilled piano and guitar tracks, ambient percussions, warm string arrangements and stunning vocal harmonies. The duo wrote the album, and performed (piano, guitars, bass, percussions and all vocals), programmed, arranged, produced, and mixed it all themselves during the summer of 2006. Combined with mastering by Chirs Potter (Sarah McLaughlan's engineer) the album is outstandingly well crafted and timeless.

Having shared the stage with bands such as Blue Rodeo, played as soloists with orchestras around the world, received airplay on Top 40 radio stations, and won several awards like the FACTOR Independent Award and ACUM, band members, Samia and Talia, have combined their rich musical experiences, poetic drive and creativity to bring us the compelling sounds of Genero.

Their first collaboration for a peace event in 2005 marked the duo's birth, and garnered loads of positive feedback.

Event organizers had this to say: "WOW and boy do I mean WOW! I don't think any of us imagined that we were going to be honoured with such an unbelievable, beautiful STUNNING performance." "It was such a privilege to hear you both perform... You are truly an outstanding duo."

Genero is currently in studio working on their second album and touring Canada and the U.S. with their new material. Their first album, "Overture", was released in October 2006 receiving excellent industry and media acclaim.

Charcoal World

Written By: Genero

Charcoal World

These are the days when everything burns
And no one’s concerned about their insanities
Take up a lie and live it through
Cause it’s really not me, it’s really not you

Charcoal world and the red red soil
And the ancient sand and the ocean spoiled.
These are the days when nothing is told
Don’t want to really get involved.

Take off you socks and feel the wet grass
You mind is spinning and your running too fast
Breath it in, there’s only one shot,
And make the best of it, cause it’s all we’ve got……it’s all I’ve got

I got my eyes on some other things
So loosen up your tie and try out your wings,
Give up your plans and just take it in,
It might be much better than this plan were in

In this charcoal world and the red red soil
And the ancient sand and the ocean spoiled.
These are the days when nothing is told
Don’t want to really get involved

Take off you socks and feel the wet grass
You mind is spinning and your running too fast
Breath it in, there’s only one shot,
And make the best of it , cause it’s all we’ve got……it’s all I’ve got

Take off you socks and feel the wet grass
Your mind is spinning and you’re running too fast
Breath it in, there’s only one shot,
And make the best of it, cause it’s all we’ve got……it’s all I’ve got
It’s all I’ve got, It’s all I’ve got…

Charcoal world and the red red soil
And the ancient sand and the ocean spoiled.
These are the days when nothing is told
Don’t want to really get involved.

Take off your socks,
Feel the wet grass,
You mind is spinning , spinning, spinning
Breath it in,
Breath it in,
…..
It’s all we’ve got, It’s all we’ve got - It’s all I’ve got

Lately I

Written By: Genero

Doesn’t matter where, I’m going to
Doesn’t matter where if I can’t be without… you..without…
And if my mind made sense, I couldn’t be the one,
To see beyond the truth

Lately I,
Have been with you.
I see your face, beyond my truth.
Somehow I,
Imagined you…
Knowing when to run and when to lose….

Without anything, you’re leaving.
Is there anything that you can see without….me…without…
And if your world made sense, you couldn’t be the one,
To see beyond the truth…..

Doesn’t matter where, you’re going to
Doesn’t matter where if I can’t be without, you, without

Break

Barely Breathing

Written By: Genero

I’m alive, but I’m not breathing
I can hear, but I’m not listening
I’m strong, but I can’t save you,
I’m wrong, but I can’t admit the truth.

I’m young, but unacceptable,
My colours just don’t match yours
My thoughts wonder in circles
And my mind, searches for miracles.

I’m alive, barely breathing
I can hear, but I’m not listening
I’m strong, but I can’t save you,
I’m wrong, but can’t admit the truth.

I dream, but let go before it’s done,
I yearn, although I know it’s wrong
To want you, but I can’t need you
My pride, I what I need to answer to.

I lie, ‘cause it’s so easy,
I try, to make you see me.
I’m rolling out to the edge of my world,
It’s stranger here, than what I have known

I’m alive, I want to breath again,
I want to hear, I want to listen
I’m strong and I can… yeah, I can save you,
I’m wrong but I’ll admit… that I miss you….

Breathing
Breathing
Breathing…

Are You There

Written By: Genero

ARE YOU THERE

One a precious night, one lonely day
I wandered far, to find my way,
And my memories seemed to crumble as I strayed.
Through mighty heights and fallen shame,
To a hiding place that was dark and stained,
With useless fear that occupied up my mind.

Are you there? Can you see me?
Can you heal the thoughts that are tearing up my mind?
Are you listening? – oh – I can’t hear you…
Is that you whispering – Are you holding on to me?
Eh yeah --- Eh yeah….

I looked at you through empty eyes,
And for a while, I couldn’t recognize,
A face I thought I knew throughout my life.
Though fumbling with insanity,
I called aloud and I tried to be free –
And I heard you whispering back to me.

Yes I’m there. I can hear you.
I can heal the thoughts that are tearing up your mind.
Yeah I’m listening – oh – can’t you hear me?
I’m whispering – and I’m holding on to you…
Eh yeah – Eh yeah…

Even in my sight, can you see me?
Even in my strength, can you reach me?
Even in my fear, even in my light,
Even in the darkest moments of my life.
When I’m in control, can you break me?
When I lose it all, can you win for me,
Even as I breath, even as I dream.
Even in my death and even in my sleep…

Are you there? Can you see me?
Can you heal the thoughts that are tearing up my mind?
Are you listening? – oh – I can’t hear you…
Is that you whispering – Is that you holding on to me?

One precious night, one lonely day
I wandered far, to find my way,
And my memories seemed to crumble as I strayed.
