“Mindset for Life” is eye-pricklingly poignant latest single from up and coming Hip Hop Rap artist Genesys.

To make the track even more emotively bruising Genesys teamed up with female vocalist Maria Aliah who deftly infused plenty of deep reverberant harmony into the single which was polished and produced to radio-ready perfection by TheBeatPlug.

The lyricism goes beyond deep with the clever offerings of empowering wit with lines such as “Instead of escape look for far change”. Depression is a subject which is increasingly popular within Hip Hop, yet the ingenuity found in the introspection of Genesys has the potential to invoke plenty of powerful inspiration.

Mindset for Life is just one of the tracks you will find on Genesys latest album “Birth of Flow Mixtape” which dropped on May 10th, 2019 which you can check out for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud now.

Genesys describes himself as a “unique artist changing the game one step at a time”. This track, with its unapologetic confidence and verve, cements him as a rapper fully ahead of the very game he wants to change.

The striking thing about ‘Whoa!’ is how clear and concise it is. Genesys’ lyrics do not possess a haphazard sense of fragmentation; he knows exactly what he wants to say and how precisely to say it. His short, pithy lines hold an intricate complexity. Let me break it down for you.

‘Whoa!’ begins with a riff that is just as unassuming in its coolness as Genesys is in his rapping. Over the guitar, the rapper asserts himself all over the track, mixing polysyllabic rhymes with brazen assurances that make your ears prick up as you resolve to listen and genuinely hear what he has to say.

Lines like “You can keep the thousands, I’m just heading for the millions” are prophetic assertions that this young, inspired and exciting rapper has a long road ahead of him.

The steady, relentless beat goes on as Genesys builds momentum with every bar and witticism. He mixes metaphors and puns together like a seasoned wordsmith, but this fledgling’s story has only just begun.

‘Whoa!’ is another promising example of how Genesys is developing into an individual entity in the rap world. Watch this space, it’s only going to get bigger.

This absolute R’n’B bop sounds like an anthem plucked straight out of the early ‘00s. It’s got the same groove, the same rhythm and the same swagger that made R’n’B the most listened-to genre in the world back then, but ‘Only One’ manages to retain a freshness that gives it an affinity to the tracks found on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s playlists today.

The female vocal generates the sweet, syrupy vibe that makes the track so playable. Her parts are a nonchalant counterweight to the urgency of Genesys’ rapping. But it is the combination of both that lets the age-old narrative of this track unfold: the chase.

This track is predicated on a classic instinctual pursuit. Boy wants girl. Girl wants boy. But girl wants to be absolutely sure of something before she admits it. She wants to be certain that she is the Only One.

Genesys’ ardent, intricate rhymes crank up the heat in this song. We never truly find out whether he gets the girl, but the sexy, upbeat rhythms and his confidence suggest he wouldn’t care if he did or not. With beats this smooth, it won’t be long until Genesys is crowned King of R’n’B hooks.

And Genesys, after that I can confirm that yes: we know the vibes.
