Genrefree & Ideal

Genrefree & Ideal are the lead singer/guitar player & emcee for the band Midwest Hype. As a side project, the duo released "Above The Influence" in 2011, as a way to vent their need to make raw, unrestrained hip-hop outside of the band. Genrefree pulls double-duty on the album, handling the entire production side as well as spitting along with Ideal, who focuses solely on crafting the highest level of self-aware, mesmerizing lyrics and patterns that deal with everyday life and the situations that result from living it. Genrefree & Ideal strive to always honor the traditions that have been handed down to them through the culture of hip-hop in which they were raised, while constantly attempting to push the boundaries of what real hip-hop is. With a nod to the past but their focus on the future the duo continue to carve out a lush musical soundscape for themselves in a world that has all but forgotten about the the fundamental truths of hip-hop: beats, rhymes, and life.
