Bio

Geoff Hooton is a 31yo songwriter, bassplayer, educator, sometime vocalist and multi-instrumentalist based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He has had a varied musical background in his work throughout Australia and is a sought after bass player in the South East Queensland region. Geoff has been a member of a number of bands with varied success, most notably ARIA award winning pop rock combo 'George' and Brisbane's 'The Montgomery Clifts'.

Geoff's musical experience began with his Dad's record collection and playing alto saxophone in the school concert band. It then progressed through organ and piano lessons to finding a bass guitar in the storeroom of his school music block. By the end of high school Geoff was working regularly in Central Queensland rock band 'Paradox' who received an AUSMUSIC award in 1993 for songwriting.

A move to Brisbane and a bachelor degree in jazz and popular music from QUT in 1995 followed during which he widened his musical horizons playing and writing many different styles. Late in 1996 Geoff filled in playing bass for a 7 piece 'art rock' ensemble who had named their band after a sign on an old St. George stove.

In early 1997 Geoff was asked to join the band spending a busy 3 and a half years rehearsing, touring, recording and building a profile for a group that would go on to see platinum record sales and nationwide acclaim. He recorded 3 E.P's with the band; 'George - self titled', You Can Take What's Mine and the Holiday/Bastard Son E.P. which contained his first cowriting credit on a released track. The song 'Holiday' has since been performed and recorded in a number of settings including with a full orchestra.

Geoff departed George in early 2000 to pursue other interests including cowriting and producing two locally released E.P's with acoustic trumpet pop allstars The Montgomery Clifts. He completed an education degree in 2002 and now coordinates the music program at a high school in Caboolture. He also works as a bass player/vocalist in Brisbane cover band 'Truly Unruly'.
This site also contains his other passion; writing and producing original material for mass consumption. He is working towards his work being published, recorded and released nationally and internationally.
