Singer-songwriter Geoff Turner returns to his native Springfield from his current home base of Nashville, Tenn. on a mission to introduce fans, family and friends to his new EP CD. Winter Songs, Turner’s self-produced and independently released recording, “has been over a year in the making.” He credits much of the CD effort to encouragement from “the many people with immense talent” he met since moving to Nashville in 2007 and from “honing his own writing talents” by attending numerous songwriter nights around town. The relocation came after Turner graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a degree in music business and left for Music City USA to work, learn and play in the heart and soul of America’s music industry. He started the SlamFire Agency in November of 2011 as an independent artist development and booking company, building on previous on-the-job tasks learned while working in music publishing, tour booking and independent artist promotion. Inspiration often comes in the middle of desperation. In the summer of 2010, Geoff found himself spinning after several major life resets. Newly divorced, suddenly unemployed and frantically grasping for a handhold, Geoff often found himself alone in his small apartment with few emotional anchors to work through the changes except his acoustic guitar. A unexpected thing came out of all those nights on the couch with a few chords and a longing heart - the stirring of new songs.
The Winter Songs EP is the product of this catharsis. These five tracks come from the heart of a man finding his feet again, redefining his definition of love, hope, passion and faith after weathering a very cold winter.
