George Leach strikes an impressive figure when he hits the stage with his signature double-neck Gibson guitar. The audience only waits mere moments before his unmistakable blues-rock riffs fill the air. 

The Staatlimx musician released his sophomore album Surrender just over a year ago. It covers a broad musical terrain touching on classic rock, soul balladry, R&B, and funk, and in the process maturing into his own as a singer and songwriter. 

Leachs dedication to song craft is evident throughout his career, and nowhere more so than on his latest collection of songs. Surrender won three Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in 2013 including: best rock album, single of the year and songwriter of the year. 

Leach has delivered a masterful artistic statement with Surrender. It is the result of years of living and learning, trial and error, falling down and getting up, breaking up then making up, and writing through it all. 

The first single Carry Me conveys vulnerability and intimacy while the second release off the album You Got It serves as both a link to his blues roots, and a departure from it with a funkier groove and a grittier vocal delivery. All the songs on Surrender deliver pleasant surprises with a confident modern rock groove and keening vocal hooks.

In 2014, Leach will hit the road mercilessly in support of his sophomore effort, while fine-tuning and testing songs out for a third album. To see Leach perform is to watch him disappear into the music but still manage to connect with his audience. He jokes and laughs on stage but when it comes to the music, it is straight up passion. Whether hes leading the charge of his crack band of musical ninjas or appearing solo, a George Leach concert does not disappoint.
