"Weapons of Mass Distraction"

Rock 'n' roll is not about precision and perfection; it's about power and passion. George & The Class of 84 put that principle into practice on their full-length Weapons of Mass Distraction. Spurred by hard-hitting drums, fuelled by grinding buzzsaw guitars and topped by gruff vocals, these 13 tracks crackle and bristle with first-take urgency, toeing the line between guitar-rawk and pop-punk and leaving all their rough edges intact. You want sterility, buy a petri dish. You want raw energy, you'll find it here. STANDOUTS: The slippery riff of the driving Burnout; the singalong chorus of Bring Me Down. –Darryl Sterdan - CD Review, The Winnipeg Sun, Oct 14, 2005

"Weapons of Mass Distraction"

If you’re a straight ahead rocker, you’ll get a kick out of George & The Class of ’84, a trio specializing in simple guitar rock. This debut is catchy in the vein of ballsy bar rock, but the sticking point here is the vocals. They just aren’t there for much of the album, which makes it difficult to get into three-chord offerings such as Automatic Love Song. The secret to success here might be hinted at by the track Burnout, which features a more aggressive vocal delivery that creates a pretty cool indie rock vibe. I bet if these guys cranked all the knobs and ditched any inhibitions they could put a decent dent in the roof of The Zoo. More yelling please. – Mike Warkentin - Uptown Magazine, Sept 29, 2005

Bio

Formed in late 1998 by Mike Onufreychuk and Blaine Martinson, the project started as a basement recording experiment. Soon the two decided to put together a live group, and recruited Ian Strachan on drums. After playing together under the name Slowjam for several years the band members went their separate ways in 2002.

A year passed, and after working in other projects and bands, the three members came together to reunite under a new name and band structure. With a fresh focus and musical direction, the band began writing and took to the stage in April 2004 for the first time in Winnipeg as George & The Class of '84. The band has since played extensively in local Winnipeg venues and has toured to other municipalities in Southern Manitoba. In September 2005, the band unleashed its new album "Weapons of Mass Distraction".
